Every year around this time, I can start to feel a magic vibe in the air as the Miami Winter Music Conference rolls around. It’s almost like there’s some intangible thread connecting everybody who’s passionate about electronic music. With increasing frequency, I’m finding myself having thoughts about the killer tunes I’m about to hear and waves of excitement about the energy of the special corner of space and time I’m about to experience.
While I’m writing about WMC here, I have to get one little grievance off my chest…For some reason, I’ve heard a number of people say things like, “I’m not really feelin’ WMC these days” or “it used to be good, but lately, it’s gone downhill” …blah, blah, blah. It’s almost like it’s become fashionable or cool to talk about how conference week used to be tight and how it’s played out now. I’m not with that!
Don’t get me wrong, I know the WMC experience is different today than it used to be…but change is the way of things, and we can’t expect it to always be the same…the music is constantly changing and so are the people creating and enjoying it. Maybe there are aspects of the events that have objectively worsened, but my philiosophy is that each of us is ultimately the driver of our experience…i.e. if a person is in Miami at a time when it’s overflowing with the world’s best electronic music DJs and most passionate fans and he or she isn’t thoroughly enjoying life, I can only scratch my head ;)
Well, enough of my little tirade…I just wanted to write this post to let everybody know the RV team will be in Miami – with the unfortunate exception of Seth, who came on board after we had finalized our reservations 
We’ll be making other blog posts and giving information in our newsletter to keep you up to date on our planned festivities 
I’m personally looking forward to bringing a healthy dose positive energy the mix and to absorbing all of the enjoyment I can!

I agree with parts of your entry…but to me, the problem is in the comercialization of WMC week.
I have been DJing, Producing and Writing for industry publications for more than 15 years. Yet, it is often difficult for me to get into events at WMC. Gone are the days that you go to hear Louie Vega and see Danny Tenaglia and Josh Wink on the dancefloor…and gone are the days of professional courtesy.
I know things have changed – but how far does it need to go. Boris at Nocturnal for $50, Tiesto at Mansion for $60, Danny Tenaglia at Twilo for $75…Shit, I have a table at BED to hear Locodice and Steve Bug (tables are NOT cheap btw) and they STILL want us to pay cover. That is where WMC is at these days…all about money and BS – very little about the “industry”
This will be year #11 (in a row) for me – so I am certainly not going stay home because of a few little things – but if were an old school WMCer…you would know how different things are now…and you might bitch a little bit too.
