One of the most exciting features of the RV 2.0 website is our recurring network competition. In just over a month, hundreds of tracks and mixes have been uploaded to our network, and the RV community has been reviewing and rating them. Our policy is to give rewards out every few weeks to the DJ and producer who upload the most popular mix and track. The first decision date was May 1st (last Friday), and we’re ready now to declare the first network competition winners…

Our winning DJ is Morgan May for his mix @ Twisted Modelf*cker 06 April 2009, which has racked up nearly 70 thumbs up ratings. The mix has a lot of energy, and it weaves its way through a sequence of trance and progressive tracks, maintaining a peak hour dance floor feel. I’ll be writing more about Morgan and his mix over the next few days.

Now, turning to our network tracks, I want to announce that DJ Afterlight is our winning producer for his track titled, “Get in to It.” This track has gotten 24 thumbs up ratings, and it has a broken beat with hints of hardcore. It’s also stirred up a string of positive comments. You’ll definitely be seeing and hearing more about “Get in to It” in the near future.

Now that we’ve announced them as winners, I want to say “CONGRATULATIONS” to Morgan May and DJ Afterlight on behalf of the RV team!

In addition to congratulating our first network competition winners here, I want to write a bit about the significance of the competition in our eyes…
.
One of our main goals in creating the RV network was to provide a free promotional tool for DJs and producers. We know there are a lot of you out there working hard to get more recognition in the industry, and you could probably use another channel to spread the word about your music. Of course, you can use MySpace and Facebook, but those sites aren’t dedicated to electronic music lovers; RV is!

Morgan May and DJ Afterlight have exemplified part of what our network is all about. I applaud them both not just for their music, but also for their hustle! I believe that’s a crucial thing that often gets overlooked. If you want to blow up as a DJ, then (in my opinion) you need to be that person who’s practicing everyday until the headphones are hurting your ears…you need to be sending your demo to anybody who will take it and going to clubs to meet people in the scene…basically, you’ve gotta hustle, hustle, hustle…
.
I can only assume that Morgan May and DJ Afterlight have at least one thing in common; that they promoted their music on the RV network. My hat’s off to these guys because their music has received better ratings than other tunes that were uploaded by big name artists…and that’s what the RV network is all about – giving an opportunity to people who may not already be big industry names but who are willing to put in some legwork. If you’re out there hustling to move your electronic music career forward, we’re here to help!

Of course, we’ve started a new competition cycle now. We’ll be announcing two new winners on Friday, May 22nd, for the DJ and producer who submit the most popular mix and track during that time frame.
