In a previous blog post, I talked about the agile programming approach that we’ve been taking with the RV 2.0 site. Basically, we built RV 2.0 on a solid foundation that allows us to make frequent changes. If you’ve been checking out our site for the past few weeks, then you’ve probably noticed that it’s changed in a number of ways – e.g. the new media player functionality and the new designs of various shop and network pages.
.
Since we now have the ability to make more frequent changes to our site, we really want to keep a strong line of communication open with you about ways to constantly improve RV. With this thought in mind, I wanted to write a brief blog post to encourage you to give us feedback. If you have any thoughts – positive or negative – about our site, please feel free to email them to us at support@resonantvibes.com.
.
Of course, I should be upfront and say that we won’t be able to instantly implement all suggestions we receive. Changes take time, but we will carefully consider your feedback and do our best to keep adapting RV to your needs.

A volume bar would do great for the media player usability.

Hi Morgan – that’s noted, although I think we had that in the earlier version of the player. We’ll have to see about adding it back in.
Other media player hints:
• Spacebar will play/pause the currently playing track
• The arrow keys will track forward or backward through the tracks in your playlist
• Press M to mute the currently playing track
These key-commands are a really great addition to our player, and they improve the user experience significantly.

Hi Eddie, great site. A few suggestions: 1. would be good to see length of paid tracks before purchase 2. a sub-category of “song” or (mostly) instrumental. No other site does this but it would be handy, as for example a search on electronica could get you Fat Boy Slim and Madonna (not that there’s anything wrong with that) 3. how about a small RV logo we can out on our web sites to point back to you.
Regards,
MHC

Mark – First, let me say thanks for taking the time to share some feedback with us!
.
1. We will definitely make the change you requested for displaying the length of tracks. Expect to see this in place on next Monday or the following Monday
.
2. I hadn’t thought about this idea of creating a new “song” category…what exactly would go in it? …basically tracks with vocals?
.
3. I see your email address in our blog admin tool. We’ll definitely send you a small logo for your sites. Thanks for offering to do this!!!

Hey guys, what about showing BPM of tunes? No problem with MixedInKey which analyzes and writes the tempo into the comment (or other) tag of MP3′s, for instance.
Just my 3456 cents.

It’s funny Ingo…we had a bpm field on RV 1.0, and we did a survey of our users to see how much they liked it…the feedback we got suggested most people weren’t too concerned with it. However, since we’ve launched RV 2.0, this idea has been suggested a number of times…so maybe we should consider adding the feature again

I don’t think I explained item 2 so clearly, Eddie. I was thinking of an ID to separate “songs” (real verse/chorus stuff) from instrumentals (that may of course have sampled or remixed vocals but aren’t really songs as such). So for collecting dance/exercise mixes etc we’d probably stick to “instrumentals”, whereas others may veer to “songs” for lounge type listening.

Oh, I get it. That’s interesting Mark. I’m gonna bounce that off the team…we seem to have a lot of people coming to the site these days who are into listening to electronic music while exercising…this may be something that appeals to them…off the top of my head, I’m not sure how we’d actually go about getting this scheme in place, but we’ll noodle on it

I’d say having a list of favorites artists&labels implemented would be great. It’s a great time-saver when it’s easy to see your favorite artist has put out another track. I personally don’t have that much time to browse for tracks and being able to see if one of my favs has something new could almost be called a life-saver

Matthijs – It’s good to hear from you
This is something that our team has talked about for a long time, and we will definitely do it! We’ve talked about giving our members the ability to “follow” certain labels and artists so that their new releases will come to you in rss-like fashion. I will let you know once we’ve put this feature in place.

Can’t wait to see it implemented

Hey Mark – I wanted to let you know that we made the change you recommended about showing Total Times in our media player.
.
This obviously needed to be put in place. There are still a few tracks on our site for which the total time may not appear…that’s just because it’s going to take some time for our script to go back through all of our tracks to calculate their total times.
.
In any case, this feature is in place for the vast majority of our catalog

There are loads of good suggestions in this thread, and we will be working on them. I wanted to write this quick comment to let everybody know that right now, we’re working on some Major Improvements to the RV Network
…so it might take us a couple weeks to get back to improving the shop…but we will get back to it!
