This edition of the podcast is from San Francisco based producer and DJ Limaçon.
.
He’s just released his first full-length album called Tarry Not on Noah Pred’s label Thoughless Music. It’s an interesting spin on the developing West Coast techno sound which, to me, seems to have it’s roots in deep house before being sprinkled with a hint of late 90′s progressive and given a twist of fresh minimal-techyness.
.
What can you expect from Tarry Not then? Well, I think it’s an album which has an emphasis on slightly dark yet funky synths which that are paired with tight drum programming and intelligent sequencing. It’s fresh and catchy, and worth a listen.

You have just released your debut album. How was the experience and what was it like working with Thoughless Music?
.
Honestly, I felt much more space and freedom working with Thoughtless. One of my main attractions to this label is the fact that they leave room for the artist. Other labels have such a distinct sound I think it would be hard to have such a diverse album. That’s been the main difference. Having the breadth to explore and grow in my own artistry.
.
So how did you hook up with Thoughtless after releasing singles on labels like Poker Flat, Resopal and Auralism?
.
I’ve always been a fan of Noah’s work. When I saw he started Thoughtless, it immediately went on my radar. I tossed some tracks his way to see if he was interested and my sound was a really nice fit for the label. Working with them has been great. For me there is a lot of importance based on the artist/label relationship.
.
What do you think of the West Coast techno sound and how does your music fit into it?
.
I’ve always had an ear to what others appreciate but I never compromise what I ultimately resonate with. I think San Francisco specifically is based in the new, fresh forward thinking mind. The West Coast in general brings the funkiness. Both traits I am inherently drawn towards so I actively seek those out in my productions.
.
Who are some artists and labels that are doing it for you at the moment?
.
Catz n’ Dogz have been killing it. Maetrik and Lee Curtis are always ones to watch. Andomat 3000 is definitely a fav. Tim Xavier’s production it top notch as well as KiloWatts. His project with Tanner Ross (Voodeaux) is killer. Rift has some amazing textures and arrangements as well. Oh, Merek Hemmann and Audio Werner are really quite incredible.
.
I tend to gravitate towards artists rather than labels seeing as they are the ones to actually produce the music but Nick Curly’s labels 8Bit and Cecille are hard to ignore though and Safari Electronique and Freerange are dope. I’m really excited about the return of house music. The funky groove has always had a warm fuzzy place in my heart. Strip the cheese and progress the genre musically and you got a winner.
.
It looks like we’ve got a lot of similar tastes when it comes to music, and personally I think Arnaud Le Texiers stuff on Safari is just phenomenal. He’s one of the top producers around in my opinion. Wrapping up then, what else can we expect from you in 2010?
.
Who knows! So much of life is unexpected. I try to take it slow and enjoy it while I can.
