Satoshi Tomiie Killin It for 20 Minutes

Here’s a little weekend treat for ya…

I’ve been bumpin’ this mix for a long time now…I can’t remember how I discovered it…it’s Satoshi Tomiie playing live for Radio Italia, and he tears it up!

I haven’t posted the full mix here – just the first 20 minutes or so…I just wanted to share the tightest part.

He starts off with the Erykah Badu vocals saying "the world keeps turnin…oh what a day…" (for those who know what I’m talking about). Then he gets into a bangin’ house track with a nice soulful vocal line. The next track comes in and has one of those brain searing progressive jet riffs…you can’t help but move…it really makes me think of being in the club, with a big crowd vibin’ and gettin’ down. Then he gets into the last track, an epic monstrosity that just bangs away! …if I heard this live with a buzz, I might spontaneously combust :D

Enjoy!

Meet the Newest RV Team Member – John Lannon

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a little while now…

On Monday, January 19th, we added a new member to the Resonant Vibes team. His name is John Lannon. See glam shot above for reference ;)

John is a super cool, smart, laid-back guy who has assumed the role of Lead Developer. That’s right…RV now has somebody dedicated to making all those great changes you’ve been suggesting…well, actually, John will be pretty tied up in the weeks/months ahead getting knee-deep in the development of our second website. Given the nature of our business, it goes without saying that John is going to play an instrumental role in helping our company fulfill its potential. He and Craig are going to be our techy tag team duo.

I should mention that John hasn’t been converted (yet) into a die-hard electronic music fan, so we’ve got some work to do. …but he’s got the most important prerequisite, an open mind.

Most business pundits say that a company’s team is everything; if that’s the case, I think RV has a really bright future ;)

Much Improved Page Loading Times

I wanted to write a quick post to let our blog readers know that we just made a Much Needed improvement to our site. Specifically, if you go to our default store page (i.e. to our New Releases section), you will notice that the pages are loading much more quickly than they’ve been loading in recent months.

I’ll be perfectly honest here and say that until we fixed this issue, our pages were loading SO SLOWLY that I truly don’t see how anybody was shopping for new releases on our site — unless they were using the banners to jump right to various releases.

I’m still not saying that our site is blisteringly fast…but it is much better than it was before.

It’s been so tough for us for so long…knowing that there were many ways in which we needed to improve our site and (frankly) not having the money or personnel to make the changes needed. But a new day is here now, and there’s a new RV in the works…I’m not just talking about the forthcoming version 2.0 site; I’m talking about the fact that our company is humming with energy and excitement right now!

I know there aren’t a huge number of people reading this blog (yet). Right now, it’s probably just the die hard RV supporters…the people who have continued to shop on our site, even though it was slow, and even though we don’t have as many releases as Beatport, etc. All I have to say to those supporters, and to everybody else, is that we’re making steady improvements over here…keep an eye on us, because we’re going to shake things up a bit this year :D And that’s real.

Bringing the Party To Your House

Well, my brain is fried. Not because I’ve just come out the other side of a marathon session with lots of over indulgence, but because I just spent the several hours filling in paperwork. Paperwork is one of the necessary annoyances of being a company based in the US, where all the healthcare is private, and you have to go through two trees worth of forms just to find out how much the insurance companies intend to rip you off by.

What I need is a bit of light listening… and perhaps a bit more than that. So, I’ve decided to log onto Dancetrippin.tv, and now I’m watching and listening to a live set by ex-Shaman front man, turned nightclub owner — Mr C. My brain is already well on the way to being rejuvenated!

Dancetrippin.tv was recommended to me by a friend at the weekend, and features a large selection of videos of live sets, some interviews, bonus videos and audio-only DJ mixes. I’m currently through about half of episode number 81, which was recorded at one of the the Zoo Project parties in Ibiza this summer. It’s the sunset set, and Mr C. is dropping a fine selection of tweaked out tech-house, acid-house and techno tracks.

I’ve downloaded a few sets from C. over the past couple of years, and although the bloke comes in for some serious grief on certain message boards—which he typically takes on the chin really well—I’ve come to find myself on the lookout for any sets by him. His track selections are nearly always spot on—for the sort of stuff I’m into at least—and he understands the way to program a set to get you engaged. His mixing tends to be seamless most of the time, and as a result his mixes are usually some of the few that make it onto my iPod and end up getting played to death – which is the measure of a quality set in my opinion.

The great thing about this set is that it’s not just audio, it video with high quality audio. Dancetrippin.tv have a multi-camera crew capturing the essence of a good party in episode 81. The sun is setting, the crowd is a European and British blend of novelty sunglasses wearers, with a fair share of dayglo wigs to be seen, lots of cute girls in bikinis, sweaty topless blokes with trendy haircuts from expensive salons in Berlin, fancy dress wearing party-goers and a good helping of random weirdness. Pretty standard for a decent techno party really.

The high production quality of the video is obvious – the editing and camera work is well executed, and the end result is a video that goes a long way to accurately capture the atmosphere of a good party. People are really up for it when it comes to techno, probably more so than any other type of party night that I can think of (all my best nights have been at techno parties). There’s no pretense at this sort of party, just good people (if a little eccentric), good music, and good times to be had.

Dancetrippin.tv is well worth spending some time on, especially if you have a sweet spot for house, tech house, and techno from the likes of Carl Cox, Chris Liebling, Sven Väth, Ritchie Hawtin, M.A.N.D.Y. Tiefschwarz and many others. If that doesn’t float your boat, then there’s still lots of other episodes that might, like ones from Armin Van Buuren, Roger Sanchez, Benny Bennasi, and Bob Sinclair to name only a few. The locations are a rolodex of international clubbing-locales, from places in Goa to the superclubs of Ibiza, from Cocoon in Germany to Space in Miami, all brought to the comfort of your home by your high-speed internet connection.

The Dancetripppin tag line is "Bringing the Party To Your House" and with the large selection of episodes for you to check out they certainly don’t disappoint, so the next time you’re looking to get away without actually getting away – check them out!

Phenomenal Track from Leftfield

Last week, my man Bigalo took it upon himself to start educating the RV team :) …he put his foot down and said we needed to order some of the seminal electronic music CDs….and one of the ones he started with was Leftism by Leftfield.

I must confess I hadn’t ever heard this CD before…now that I’ve made it through, I can definitely see why it’s classic stuff.

I couldn’t resist posting one track here that’s called "Melt." It’s phenomenal; check it out!

Enjoy!

RV 2.0 Is Coming…

You may have noticed that we changed the header on our site this week to let everybody know that a new and Much Improved version of the Resonant Vibes website is coming…If you’ve been a member of the Resonant Vibes community for a long time, then you’re probably saying to yourself, "it’s about time guys!" ;)

I’ve done some posts lately to allude to the coming of the new site…assuring our users that we have been listening to all of your comments and suggestions about what we should be doing differently.

The next version of our site is going to provide radically improved functionality and a better interface for our store and content. It will also feature some new sections that will do things no other electronic music sites are doing! Bottom Line: RV 2.0 is gonna be dope, and we can’t wait to launch it this spring!

Stay tuned for more…

Nice Tracks on John Digweed’s Kiss 100…

Here’s an episode from John Digweed’s Kiss 100 radio show for ya :D It was broadcast last month, and I’ve been getting into it of late.

I normally prefer the guest mixes on Digweed’s show, but he showcases some super tight tracks on this episode.

Don’t take my word for it though…play the file below, and needle drop to the 29:18 mark to get to a blazin’ hot track from Martinez!

Enjoy!

Nice Fresh Sounds from Makeup Recordings

Robot Trio Sampler

This year, I hope to spend a little more time highlighting the music that catches my ears and to start things off I’ve decided to highlight a new label; Makeup Recordings.

I received an email from the label earlier this week, and I checked out the tunes they included. A ‘net label for now—with the goal of pressing some vinyl down the road—Makeup are offering a five track sampler as their first release. The release will be available on RV soon and is produced by Robot Trio, a production trio consisting of label boss Mike Bass, and the brothers Stefano and Dante Filippelli.

The thing I like about the sampler is that it’s really fresh sounding. The live instruments alongside tight drum programming delivers a nice alternative to so much of the other ‘trendy’ music out there. They’re not afraid to use a sprinkling of lyrics and some raw deep house soul—some of it reminding me a little of Timewriter’s productions—with the result clearly being a release that Robot Trio have well thought out and put together. There are hints of disco and electro in places, which keeps things tasty and firmly cements the release in the ‘’party music’ category. People don’t have to be avid electronic music fans to get into these tunes, and it’s the sort of thing you can play over at your mates house on party night. It’s not just party music though, there’s also enough there to keep the die hard house and electro fan happy too… Ultimately, Robot Trio deliver a sound which is original so it should have the right sort of mass appeal to be successful.

With that in mind, it seems like the tunes aren’t aimed at the typical main room DJ set, as they are all short in length. In fact, only one of the five tracks on the sampler is longer than four minutes which means most DJs will need a longer remix or have to re-edit them to include longer mix-in and mix-out sections. I’ve taken a few this afternoon to do just that, and put together a 20 minute mini-mix for your listening pleasure – which I’ve posted below.

I look forward to keeping an eye on Makeup Recordings, and the future releases from Robot Trio. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I have.
