Free Track from James Zabiela

Sam already wrote a good blog post about James Zabiela’s Masters Series mix compilation on Renaissance Recordings, so I won’t go into much detail about the album here…

What I will do, however, is hook you up with a free track!

James called this one "Darkness 2," and he’s offering it as a promo to whet your appetite for the full Masters Series compilation…which is out now!

Enjoy!

Hidden Recordings NYC Techno + Free Track

More goodies here for our RV blog readers…

In my ongoing effort to stay in the loop and keep you there with me, I’ve been informing myself more about a label that’s on the rise: Hidden Recordings.

Launched in 2006 by Deepak Sharma and Dieter Krause, Hidden Recordings offers quality techno from the heart of New York City. The label’s diverse sounds range from "deep techno to atmospheric chill-out with quirky, groovy bass lines," and its releases are getting play everywhere from big rooms and festivals to lounges and early-morning terraces.

Of course, I could write all day about Hidden Recordings, but the best way to give you feel for the label is to give you some tunes. Fortunately, they’re offering techno lovers a free download!

This free track is titled "Manuela." It’s by Monkey Brothers, and its on the A Side of a Hidden Recordings’ February 20th release. The track has "a pounding beat, wobbly bass line, sci-fi melodies and loads of samples and sound effects for optimal damage."

Enjoy!

Ingo Vogelmann’s Lightworks Mix Gettin’ It Done

The weekend is getting close, and I’m feeling obliged to share another quality mix with all of our blog readers…

Once again, I went digging through the the friskyRadio subscription archives, and I found a gem :D

It’s with great pleasure that I take a few minutes here to share a mix from an artist who has been a true RV supporter since the Early Days: Ingo Vogelmann.

If you’ve been following RV long enough, then you may remember that Ingo was the man behind one of the most successful label’s that we’ve ever carried in our store, namely L2 Music. In my last few years of working in the electronic music industry, I haven’t interacted with anybody else quite like Ingo. He’s definitely one of a kind, and he’s clearly talented, spirited, and committed to the music.

This mix is part one of a set Ingo calls "Lightworks" – I’m assuming as a reference to his recent Lightworks EP on friskyRecords. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but for some reason the title seems very apt to me. At certain points, the mix is like an aural representation of light beams dancing…it feels like the sounds are making your brain cells coruscate…very cool stuff…proggy, high-quality and different, just like my man Ingo :D

Enjoy this one!

listed and RV present the Cecille and Oslo Records Showcase

As you can see from Eddie’s post below we’re pleased to be co-presenting the Leeeeky Tikki party with listed Productions. Well, not being content to present only one party, we thought it would be a good idea to partner with listed again to deliver what is already being touted to be one of the parties of WMC this year; the Cecille and Oslo showcase at the Victor Hotel on March 28.

Cecille Records was founded by Nick Curly and Marc Scholl, with an approach towards releasing music with a sound somewhere between deep, minimal house and techno. With the releases from the likes of Curly, Andomat3000 and Robert Dietz it’s clear they are holding true to those values.

Oslo Records, was the result of Federico Molinari and Nekes (Nektarios Danias) coming together in 2007 to start a label that would be motivated by talented artists and focussed on releasing music with a sound somewhere between house and techno.

In June of 2007, Oslo Records released Johnny D.’s ‘Manipulation’ 12” which makes no apologies for the combination of stripped down and driving tech sounds, with live percussive elements layered on top. The Nekes remix provided some minimal contrast and helped put both Johnny D. and the label on the map after it received strong support.

It’s interesting to point out that the minimal trend seems to be almost over these days, and a fusion style of tribal tech-house along with nu-disco stuff is getting a lot attention. With either one the trend is heading back towards productions with some life, soul and real instruments – rather than just a few clicks an bleeps over the top of a kick drum. With the ‘Manipulation’ releases you can see that Oslo were already ahead of the curve when that release come out, and now the rest of the scene is playing catch up.

And now the two labels come together in Miami to provide the sounds for the pool area at the Victor Hotel on Saturday, March 28. The listed residents will be heading up room two, with their special guests—who RV are very excited about—so it promises to be quite an event.

All I can say is that if you are planing on making the trip to Miami then you should plan to attend. It’s guaranteed to be a ridiculous 12 hours of some of the best house, and techno to be found in Miami that week.

We’ll be there giving some gift cards away as part of our new site promotion so don’t be shy, come over and introduce yourself, and don’t miss out!

Tickets are on sale now through Resident Advisor HERE.

RV and listed Bringing You Lee Burridge at WMC!

We’ve teamed up with listed Productions yet again…and we’re getting ready to make a serious impact at WMC 2009…

On Thurday, March 26th, RV and listed are bringing you the Leeeeky Tikki boat party featuring Lee Burridge. This is going to be EPIC!

In our history, RV has been involved in a number of events, but I can honestly say I’m more excited about this one than any other in the past :D …it’s not just the fact that Lee Burridge is such an acclaimed DJ (e.g. his being ranked the #10 DJ in the world by Resident Advisor). Rather, it’s the fact that this party comes at a unique time in our company’s development. RV is taking off this year, and we’re gonna hit the afterburners at WMC 2009.

So here’s how things are gonna work…

The boat will set sail and 3:00pm, with Mike Khoury assuming opening duties. We’ll remain at sea for five hours, during which time all attendees will be getting their heads properly pounded by Mr. Burrdige :D

We’re going to have some special goodies for everybody on the boat. I won’t go into the details here, but I will say they’ll be unique, and they’ll be real crowd pleasers!

A lite snack will also be provided, and I should also mention that there will be an OPEN BAR!

This is going to be a super-special event for us since we’ll be celebrating the launch of our version 2.0 website!

We can’t wait, and we hope you’re on board to share a special time with us.

If you want more details about the party, just shoot an email to us at support@resonantvibes.com. Tickets are going really quickly, so don’t sleep!

Free Eardrum Massage from Eelke Kleijn…

I’ve been in the mood for prog this week…and I knew I wanted to post a solid mix on our blog for you, so I went searching…

What I found is a fantastic mix from one of our own DJs, Eelke Kleijn :D

Eelke has been making power moves and blowing up since we added him to our site back in October of 2006. Since that time, he’s had a release on Global Underground, and he’s been playing gigs around the world. More recently, he finished writing music for a Nike Internet campaign. It really pleases me to see Eelke enjoying this success because he’s always been such cool guy when I’ve interacted with him…talent without ego…a splendid combination ;)

So anyway, this mix I found is fresh out of the box. It was released on February 17th as a promo for Eelke’s own label, Outside the Box Music, which has been progressing nicely as well. This mix is solid all the way through. It’s got a mellow undertone, but it also has a unique liveliness. Outstanding track selection and sequencing…I would definitely highly recommend jamming out to this one over the weekend!

Also, I have to give a real shot out to friskyRadio here because I got this mix from the frisky subscription downloads. It only costs $10 per month to subscribe, and you get access to a wealth of quality progressive mixes! …and the proceeds help frisky foot the bill for bringing us all free quality tunes everyday.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy Eelke’s mix as much as I’ve been enjoying it!

The New RV Blog Is Live!

The metamorphosis has begun…For the past couple months, Resonant Vibes has been growing and changing radically in ways that may not have been obvious to our community. Now, however, the changes are starting to reach the surface…

Yesterday, we launched a radically new version of our blog, which also gives a foretaste of what our version 2.0 website will be like.

As you can see, the new blog has an entirely new design and layout. We’ve actually changed our brand identity. I’ll be honest here and say that we’re planning to do some things that no other electronic music website has done to date. In terms of design, we’re staying away from the mechanical, soulless approach and going instead with a clean, spacious environment that will envelope and embrace each member of our community.

Our new blog also has a search box and better navigation through categories and archives. We wanted to make it easier for you to find the posts that interest you.

RV Exclusive Interview with FreQ Nasty

At RV, we have a company subscription to receive the monthly CD releases from Fabric Live. For those who don’t know, the 42nd installment of the series was mixed by FreQ Nasty. If you haven’t heard it, I’m not sure I can accurately describe it for you. It’s a very different mix, which suggested (to me) it was created by a very different artist. With these thoughts in mind, I jumped at the opportunity to bring you an exclusive interview of FreQ Nasty, the man with an eye-catching hairstyle and ear-catching sound…Enjoy!

Q: It’s really a pleasure to be able to interview you. There’s a lot of industry buzz about FreQ Nasty right now, but let’s go back to the beginning…You were born in Fiji. Can you tell me how and when you started getting into electronic music? …and who were some of your most important early influences?

A: The first electronic record I remember hearing was at school when Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines” came out. I was just a kid and led a pretty sheltered NZ lifestyle, so I probably didn’t know it was about drugs…but the beats blew me away. The early days of hip hop are in part the roots of electronic dance music…but the first proper “electronic dance music” tune I remember buying was Baby Ford’s “Oochy Koochy.” I actually found the etched 12” in a shop in the UK years later, and it still sounded DOPE – acid house with huge bass. I remember reading in the (three-month-old) press that got to NZ that this record was notorious for destroying pre-electronic-music sound systems in London in the acid house days. Fucking brilliant record!

Steve Bug’s Save the Cannibals Podcast

As you might expect, Eddie B listens to loads of electronic music ;) …so I’ve got another musical treat for you this weekend. Here’s Steve Bug’s Save the Cannibals podcast!

As you probably know, Steve is one of Germany’s primo minimal connoisseurs. He’s been making it happen since 1991, and he’s perhaps best know as the head of the renowned Poker Flat label.

I was acutally in New York City when he played the Save the Cannibals event. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it out…but that’s ok, becuase I’ve been buggin’ out (forgive the pun) to this mix for a while…and now you can too ;)

Enjoy!

Interview with Mango

I was very impressed with the recent Proton Music release from Alex Golovanov (better known as "Mango"), especially the track "Forever July." As I was listening to the track, I found myself wanting to learn more about the artist who had produced it…luckily, I was able to catch up with Alex for an interview, and now it’s my pleasure to share an inside perspective with you…Enjoy!

Q: Alex, I’ve been listening to your track “Forever July,” released on Proton Music, and I’m absolutely digging it! Can you tell me how you developed your warm, smooth, melodious production style? Were you heavily influenced by other artists, or did you develop the style on your own?

A: Thanks, I’m really glad you love my recent release. I love how the EP turned out. We worked hard on it with Jay Epoch, even on the release art. Big thanks to Jay – he gave me an opportunity to choose the cover art photo. I think it’s obvious that my recent sound was influenced by the early works of Deadmau5 and Adam K & Soha.  Nevertheless, I’ve worked hard to develop my own signature. Mostly, it’s about the melodies. I try to make positive, laidback, carefree themes – no sad or dark stuff.
