I’ve been corresponding with a number of RV supporters since the launch of the RV 2.0 site on March 24th, and they’ve given me feedback that led me to write this post. What I want to briefly explain here is the new approach that our company has decided to take toward web development.
First, let me state the obvious; RV 2.0 is a beta website. As such, there are a number of imperfections that are keeping Craig and John (our tech guys) super busy. You might ask the question, "Why would RV launch their new site without having everything perfectly in order". This is a good question, and it raises the issue of our company’s philosophy about web development.
After much consideration, we decided to take a more "agile" approach to development. This means we’re going to deploy new technologies early and iterate often. Our aim is to satisfy your needs and desires as much as possible, and we think this approach is the best way to do that. Why? …because it ultimately means we’re more focused on your feedback. For example, we could’ve obssessed over perfections and our own ideas for another three months before deploying RV 2.0…but then we would have missed three months where we could’ve been getting your feedback and incorporating it into our site. Instead, our plan was to launch the site early, with a solid infrstructure in place, and then to constantly improve it.
As I write this blog post, I’m watching Craig and John work away to make our site better
We’ve got loads of improvements in the pipeline – like a great new media player, WAV files, and tons of new labels
At the risk of sounding overly philosophical, I’d say RV is like any organism or thoughtful person going through life…we’re evolving, one mutation/iteration at a time, in a positive direction
I want you to know that our team greatly appreciates your patience, feedback, and support as we continue to make our way through this beta phase. We’re super excited about what we have in store for you in the very near future

A good post Eddie! I think it’s important for people to understand our approach to developing the new site… there is soooo much more to come, and we have a great foundation on which to deploy our new features!

I really appreciate your openness and direct connection to your customers. And I’m really looking forward to the “free umbrella drink” button.

It is important to understand that a website isn’t static; its dynamic. It changes and grows as its users do. You guys are doing a wonderful job.
