What have you done for me lately, a la Facebook Integration

Trogdor: The Burninator At last count, I’d been using the Interwebs for over 14 years. In the old days, pickins were pretty slim as to which web sites I spent my time on. The landscape has changed a bit since the days of trolling through Lycos and serial sites for useless software. I’d be so bold as to say I’m not alone in feeling deluged with the number of sites now vying for my attention as a consumer and it’s really affected the way I spend my time. Lately, I’ve been trying to pair back the time I spend wasting away on the web (whilst listening to Joe Cocker sing “The Magic Has Gone”) and getting back to basics. I’ve got just a few go-to sites that I routinely use, and I search for everything else, ad hoc. Probably nothing earth shattering here.

Adam Beyer – Slices Documentary

If you’ve been reading our blog for a while, then you probably know I like Adam Beyer’s sound and style of music. Some time ago, I came across a short, interesting documentary about him; it was released by Slices – The Electronic Music Magazine. I’ve embedded the documentary in this post so you can check it out. Enjoy!

Seth’s Picks of the Week 21st of November 2009

11-21-09 Top 10

If you happen to follow some of the label links below, you’ll find that many of them only have a handful of releases. This could be attributed to a release from a new label, but more than likely, is because it is some of the first content to arrive from one of the many new labels we’ve added to the shop. If that’s the case, keep an eye out. We’ll have a steady stream of back catalog coming so you can dig back for the goodies the label has already released, and grab the new stuff as soon as it comes out.

1. Cepheid (Chloe Harris Remix)Liz CirelliMirabilis Records. This is a no brainer for me. I always seem to go for Mirabilis, and I’ve been known to enjoy some Chloe Harris as well.

2. One Mode (Original Mix)MidaveTokyo Red Recordings. Tokyo Red has been getting me lately. I enjoy a label that has an identity, but their releases don’t seem to be dictated by some sort of label mantra. Their artists seem to have some room to breathe and are well chosen, which can only help make the music better.

3. Flush (Original Mix)SonodabGalaktika Records. Do yourself a favor and listen to the whole release.

4. Shponggg (Original Mix)Latscho PalmePlattenbau Music. Shpongg must mean rolling waves in a language with which I am unfamiliar.

5. A Summer Melody (Remute Remix)Paul SchalRemuted. Remute has issued only two releases, but I like them both and look forward to number three.

6. Abstract Looper (Original Mix)Matthias SpringerPunkt vor Strich Recordings. Abstract Looper is the perfect example of the type of song I like to hear when I’m in a laid-back mood, or towards the end of the night. It definitely grooves, but it doesn’t club you over the head.

7. Escape (Robin Hirte Summer Mix)Robbie RiveraParquet Recordings. This remix of the Robbie Rivera track is excellent. Drop this one and it’s on. 128 BPM of body moving techno.

8. Plankton (Matan Caspi and Eddy Good Remix)Muzikjunki & Marco Den HeldWazzup? Records. This particular remix of Plankton has good energy and melody without being over the top.

9. Never Forever (Marko Zavala Remix)SharkatronicAnimal Play Minimal. This one gets a bit nasty…

10. Goldbrokat (Donato Dozzy Techno Remix)Cio D’orPrologue. One of my favorite releases of the week.

Yes, Our $1.50 WAVs Are Legit

I feel obliged to write this blog post because we’ve gotten several emails in the past few months where people are asking about the legitimacy of our WAVs. Basically, the concern has been expressed that we’re just taking MP3 files, converting them into WAVs, and then selling them for $1.50. [insert wrong answer buzzer sound]

The last email I got on this matter caught me when I was having a tough day and rubbed me wrong. In my opinion, it would be downright shady for us to merely convert MP3s into WAVs and then pass them off to you as higher quality files…so I just wanted to write this post to make it known, unequivocally, that Resonant Vibes does not do this.

I guess I understand why people might have this concern…$1.50 WAVs may just sound too good to be true. Some other sites are selling WAVs for nearly twice that amount, and I guess that leads some folks to think there must be a catch to what we’re doing.

The reality is there is no catch – other than the fact that we’ve had a policy of working hard to preserve our pricing structure, withstanding pressures from myriad sources over the years to make sure our customers pay what we consider to be a fair price.

I should make one additional fine point here…We do not have perfect knowledge about the files our content providers deliver. For example, if one of our content providers were to deliver an MP3 file that had simply been re-encoded as a WAV, we would not realistically have a way of catching that. However, I would be surprised if this happens because we deal with reputable content providers. Moreover, if they were delivering such files to us, they would also be delivering them to the other sites, which charge considerably more for the same download.

Now, in the immortal words of Forrest Gump, “That’s all I have to say about that” ;)

re:produce 006: Stewart Walker – Out Now, Exclusively on RV!

Techno Samples from Stewart WalkerWe just released another high-quality sample pack, re:produce 006: Stewart Walker. This one is available exclusively on RV, and it features over 120 MB of sounds, including lead synth lines, bass sounds, percussive rhythms, and three exclusive Ableton Live 8 groove arrangements. All of these elements reflect Stewart’s characteristic style and attention to production detail. I should also mention that we’re offering all of these production tools to you for the bargain price of $10!

Based in Berlin, Stewart is a restless innovator. He started his career on labels like Force Inc. and Tresor and eventually ended up a member of Richie Hawtin’s vaunted M_nus roster. Today, Stewart runs his own imprint, Persona Records.

Over the years Stewart has had a considerable impact on the development of current club sounds. He consistently chooses the road less traveled, working as a live producer in the world of DJs and injecting emotion into every performance.

Stewart’s sound is as unique as it is impressive, and now he’s made it available for you. Enjoy!

RV Exclusive Prerelease and Chart from Tony Craig!

Tony CraigAs you know, we’ve been working tirelessly to simultaneously improve our new site and to make sure we’re back up to speed on everything we had to offer on our 1.0 site. One of the things that has been missing since RV 2.0 made it out into the water… exclusives. Thanks to Dublin Xpress Recordings, we’re putting the wheels back on the exclusive cart. On the 23rd of November, we will be the only outlet for Tony Craig’s Dog Head release. I’ve been listening to it over the past few weeks, and I think you’ll be as pleased with these tracks as I have been. This is not one of those releases that has a decent original and a host of throwaway filler remixes. Mr. Craig’s original is spot on techno. The solid sparse beats lay down the foundation, and are complimented by several well-placed builds and transitions. My favorite remix is the Cricky Lyttle cut, which has major crowd-pummeling potential.
.
Tony was kind enough to send us a chart of his top 10 tracks of the moment. This should give you a good idea of where he’s coming from. (I know, a preposition)
.

10. Within You (Nasty Bobby’s Nasty & Nasty Remix)Mark O’SullivanNice & Nasty
(I can give a big thumbs up on Mark O’Sullivan. He dropped two releases in the same week and I had a hell of a time deciding which one to feature in my top 10 blog that week.)
.
There you have it. Our fist exclusive in months. See you on Monday.

Bear Creek Music Festival 2009 Recap

Bear_Creek_PosterThis past weekend a friend and me made the 12+ hour drive from Louisville, KY to Live Oak, FL for the 3rd annual Bear Creek Music Festival. The festival was held in the amazing Spirit of Suwanee Music Park, which is actually designed to host music events with several permanent stages including one of the most enchanting amphitheaters around! The festival is still very young and because of that it offered a very intimate atmosphere with what I heard to be only around 5 thousands people in attendance. We had an absolutely stunning time to say the least.
.
We ended up leaving Louisville at about 3am on Thursday morning, after taking all night to get our camping supplies ready and packed in the car. We finally arrived in Live Oaks at about 4pm that same day and found a prime camping spot right next to a beautiful lake located in the heart of the party. Needless to say we did not end up sleeping much the entire weekend :) . The festival was being primarily pushed as a funk festival, but what become quite undeniable from the first night was that Electronic Dance Music continues to re-invent itself and expand it’s reach far beyond the traditional club circuit outlets. This was apparent through various “Livetronica” bands/artist like: Alex B, The Pnuma Trio, Break Science, Telepath, and Lotus who all played a substantial role in keeping the party peeps moving over the weekend. Also late at night many tents kept the energy moving by throwing private dance parties in various areas of the campgrounds!
.
The first night we caught a good deal of the The Pnuma Trio PA set which included DJ Alex B spinning his glitchy hip-hop tracks while Lane Shaw threw down on drums. Alex B truly has a lot of love for his fans and kept the energy up all night to the point of refusing to get off stage even one second early! The performance was jam packed with people getting down on the dance floor, yet it was not until Friday night that the party really got going!
.
The first performance that blew me away was RV’s friends Telepath. I had seen these guys before at the Brown Theatre but their performance at Bear Creek was on a whole new level. First and foremost they played in the Purple Hat Tent which quickly became my favorite stage of the festival. Lets just say the budget for that tent must have been outrageous because they had some of the sickest lights that I have ever seen with a sound system that rumbled your chest and rattled your brain!
