rv_cast 015 Mixed by Jason Patrick

This episode of the rv podcast comes courtesy of Chicago based techno DJ and producer Jason Patrick.
.
Jason is originally from Detroit Jason Patrick | Resonant Vibes Electronic Music Podcastbut now lives in Chicago and is co-boss of Klektic Records alongside Nadia Podolsky who also runs runs the Volatl™ promotions and booking agency which is based in Chicago.
.
I’ve heard Jason spin a few times now and I’ve always been impressed by his unassuming style behind the decks, and the way he just gets down to business. His track selection is excellent and he combines it with a good technical ability that guarantees after his slot he’ll have the crowd just where they need to be.
.
His talent certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed in the Windy City as these days he finds himself in popular demand as the opener or closer of choice for most of the Volatl parties.
His interview, the track list and podcast subscribe details are after the jump.
.
What are you currently working on?
.
Currently I’m working with Max Jacobson finishing up a remix of a Dilo vs. Gurtz track. The remix will be a part of the next Klectik vinyl release that will be out in March, aside from that I’ve been really busy promoting the most recent release Max Jacobson’s Klectik05.5 EP, and focusing on my DJ-ing with a lot of gigs as of late!
.
How did Klektik get started and what’s on the horizon for the label in 2010?
.
Klectik got started in 2006 in Detroit. The idea was to get together a platform to release my music as well as artists that I’m friends with and who’s music I like and believe in. I really wanted to have something in place that would allow me to put things out exactly the way I wanted them with my own vision as far as the sound that I’m interested in, as well as the visual presentation of the label. It really didn’t get off the ground until I moved to Chicago in 2007 when we released the first record. We have a lot planned for 2010, the next vinyl release with Dilo vs Gurtz, an EP from Argentinean producer Alexis Cabrea, music from Chris Fortier, as well as Max Jacobson’s first vinyl EP for the label!
.
How was your podcast recorded, and do you use the same set-up when you play live?
.
The podcast was recorded at home from Serato running off a Macbook Pro, two Technic 1200s and an Ecler Nuo3 mixer recorded into Ableton Live in one shot. The difference between this and what I usually play out on live is the mixer. When I play out it is either an Allen & Heath Xone 92 or a Pioneer 800.
.
Who are your top 3 producers for 2009, and why?
.
This is a tough one but off the top of my head I will throw a few out there. Butch is one – he had a big year, Amelie was a big track and From Above may just be my favorite track of 2009! Julien Chaptal is another, I just can’t seem to get enough this new dutch house explosion and this guy was one of the best from that pack… there were several big tracks from him that always lit up the dance floor when they hit in 2009. Lastly, I will say, German producer, Langenberg. I played four of his tracks on this podcast and his stuff is an amazing blend of deep, deep moody techy-house, very rhythmically grooving tracks!
.
What’s the best party you’ve played at this year?
.
It would definitely have to be listed’s Varsity Allstars party. It was their third year in a row putting on this phenomenal day party in Chicago and they have all been great. This one was my favorite and I know a lot of other people felt the same, it was just one of those magical days where everything went right. It was great of them to give me the opening slot right before Anja Schneider, and really give me an opportunity to shine. The whole party was amazing everybody played great, Anja and Mike Khoury especially played great sets!
.
What’s the best party you’ve been to this year, and why?
.
The best party I went to in 2009 would have to be Made Events Sunday School For Degenerates. I know everybody was kinda not sure what to expect with it being at a new location, but they really delivered something great. The sound system inside was without a doubt the best sound I’ve heard at a party this year. My favorite sets were from Matt Dear and Ida Engberg! Overall the vibe and energy at this party were just absolutely electric – hats off to the Made Events Crew, they know how to deliver nothing but highest quality everything when it comes to events!
.
According to Jason this mix “is in the vain of how I played opening for Davide Squillace and Paco Osuna” and features 17 tracks over 78 minutes. Enjoy!

Great stuff Jason! Listening to this mix makes me remember the absolutely killer set you played at the listed Varsity All Stars party earlier this year ;) Keep up the good work!
