Headed Down for Miami WMC 2010!

Miami WMC

Well, we’ve gotten to that special time of the year again, the time when the weather starts warming up and the dance music industry starts preparing for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC). No matter how many other events I attend, WMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Warm weather, palm trees, the beach, and incredible music always make for a memorable combination!

As usual, RV will have a presence at WMC this year. Our aim is to bring you coverage of some of the best events. In this post, I want to highlight a few of the parties we’ll be covering…

For starters, we’ll be covering the Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg pool party, at the Surcomber Hotel, on Thursday, March 25th. This should be epic! The party will be going from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Let’s picture it…sitting poolside, sipping a mojito, everybody’s grooving to the pounding beats of these two reputed DJs. Nice!

On Thursday night, our focus will shift to Shine at the Shelbourne Hotel, where Hernan Cattaneo and Darren Emerson will be holding it down. I’ve seen both of these guys live, and the music was fantastic. They’ve both been getting the job done for years now, and I have no reason to think they’ll break the tradition this year.

On Friday night, another exciting party is going down at Shine. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, D. Ramirez, and Hybrid are going to be providing a musical odyssey for all comers. We’ll bring you a recap of this promising event.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll also be bringing you coverage of the 2010 Ultra Music Festival! This massive event represents the climax of the whole WMC week. As always, Ultra will showcase the talents of the world’s biggest DJs – Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Erick Morillo, and the list goes on and on!

As you can tell, it’ll be a busy few days down in Miami! Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on these events and some other amazing parties!

Movement 2010 Line-Up Announced

Movement 2010 | Resonant Vibes Electronic Music Blog
Since 2000 electronic music fans from across the globe have made the pilgrimage every May to Detroit, the city where Techno music was born. 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of the Movement Festival (formerly DEMF) in Detroit.

In 2009 the Movement Electronic Music Festival recorded its best attendance figures to date since becoming a ticketed event in 2005.  Some 83,322 people filled the outdoor venue last year.  An international partnership was also forged with promoters from Torino Italy to create Movement Torino.

The rumors continue to be confirmed that the bearded techno-über guru Hawtin will be hot on the festival circuit this year, headlining live as Plastikman. Other headliners included  Model 500 and Inner City with a total of 70 acts announced today covering a spectrum of sounds from techno through to livetronica. My line-up highlights are: Agoria, Cassy, Chris Liebling, Derrick Carter, DJ Godfather, DJ Sneak, Ida Engberg, Italoboyz, Jamie Jones, Joel mull, John Acquaviva, Josh Wink, Luke Hess, Martin Buttrich, Martyn, Michael Meyer, Mt Scruff, Oner Ozer, Redio Slave, Robert Hood, Ryan Crosson, Simian Mobile Disco and Theo Parish. You can check the full list in the graphic below, as I couldn’t find a decent HTML list to copy and paste.

Ford are the presenting sponsor this year which adds testimony to how much the commercial reach of the festival has grown. The result might be a line-up that seems too mainstream for some of the techno puritans—who’s heads will be rammed in a sub in Made in Detroit area anyway—but one that should keep the rest of us revelers happy.

$40 early bird tickets are now on sale and all the details are to be found at  http://www.paxahau.com/movement/

re:produce 007: Touane – Out Now, Exclusively on RV!

House and techno samples from TouaneWe just released another high-quality sample pack, re:produce 007: Touane. This one is available exclusively on RV, and it features 100 MB of sounds from one of the industry’s most exciting underground producers.
.
Marco Tonni (Touane) emerged as a presence in the dance music industry in 2004 when he signed with Stewart Walker’s Persona Records. He proceeded to brand a uniquely funky underground sound and to establish himself as one of Italy’s most respected producers. For the past five years, Touane has lived in Berlin, which has been an ideal location for the refinement of his craft. Of late, he’s taken an original approach to techno, refusing to blindly follow the trends that come and go in the dance music industry.
.
Touane’s resume is peppered with accomplishments such as his chart-topping single, “Bassic” (licensed for Fabric Live – Tiefschwarz and for XLR8R’s Berlin issue compilation CD), and with releases on labels like Dumb-Unit, Liebe*Detail, Resopal, Lan Muzic, and his own Left Handed imprint. As a live act, he’s rocked the dance floors of some of Europe’s finest clubs. Simply put, Touane is an artist who knows how to deliver, and that’s just what he’s done with the re:produce 007 sample pack.
.
The re:produce 007 sample pack includes Ableton-ready samples and a packaged Ableton 8 project file (with pattern sequencing from Touane, as heard in the preview track). As an added bonus, Touane threw in some Ableton and Reaktor kits and other sounds to give you extra versatility in the studio. Check out the preview for re:produce 007 by clicking the play icon below. We think you’ll like what you hear…

Limited Edition Print Giveaway for 15 Days Only!

Limited Edition Print Giveaway

It’s the holiday season, so we’ve got some extra goodies for you…

From today through the end of December, we will be giving away Limited Edition Prints showing our RV 2.0 launch theme: “Get it. Share it. Feel it.” (See the images above for a preview of the prints.) There are only 25 of these special prints. Each one is numbered and subtly bears the RV 2.0 logo and launch slogan at the bottom. The dimensions of the prints are 18″ x 30″, and they’re all on acid-free museum-grade archive paper, a top-quality stock. The image was created by Bill Green, an artist known for his award-winning illustrations and designs, most notably his show posters for the nationally popular Lebowski Fest. The layout and actual design of the prints were done by our own Sam Gracie who, along with Bill Green, earned an award for the print from the Louisville Graphic Design Association.

To be eligible to win one of these limited edition prints, you just need to place an order for $25 or more by December 31st. Each day, we will review all of the orders for $25 or more and randomly select one winner! This is your chance to win a piece of art that (we think) captures the spirit of dance music, which is what RV is all about. Of course, we can’t fully describe that spirit…that feeling you get when you’re part of a crowd and there’s a positive shared energy in the air…when the DJ’s sounds (vibes) are emanating from the speakers and resonating with you at a core level…if you love dance music, then you know the spirit we’re talking about, and you can see it in these prints.

To check out four larger views of the print, see below… (more…)

Shop on RV to Support “Music for Africa”

Music for Africa

I’m proud to announce that Resonant Vibes will donate 10% of our site’s net profits for the second half of December to the charity, “Music for Africa.” ‘Tis the holiday season, and it’s the perfect time for us to do something to help make the world a better place!

We selected the Music for Africa charity after doing some research. Given the nature of our business, we thought it would be most fitting for us to support a music-oriented cause. Music for Africa was founded by a guitarist named Tom Toomey in 1999 after he saw a young South African boy “playing guitar” on an empty oil can with a piece of wood nailed onto it. Tom was touched deeply by this incident and decided to take action after learning that South African schools provided no musical education in their curricula.

With the help of caring local people, Tom started an independent music school at Lehlake in Phokwane (The Lehlake Music Project). The school continues to be funded by Music for Africa, which in turn has been supported by caring individuals, primarily in the UK.

The Lehlake Music Project now provides musical instruction to roughly 150 students in South Africa. These students have the opportunity to learn classical and electric guitar, keyboard, and drums, and they do not pay any tuition. Music for Africa also gives each student an instrument for learning purposes, which they are able take home.

Since 2004, Music for Africa has entered over 100 students for Grade Exams with the Trinity College of Music (in London). An examiner from the UK comes to South Africa every year to administer these exams. In 2006-7, three Music for Africa students won bronze medal awards from the Trinity College of Music by earning the highest marks in Grade 1 Classical guitar. The College only awards 50 bronze medals worldwide each year, so this is an incredible achievement!

If you’re interested in learning more about Music for Africa or if you want to make a direct donation, you can visit their website at musicforafrica.org.uk.

When we present our donation, we may suggest that they add turntables to their instrument repertoire ;)
