Headed Down for Miami WMC 2010!

Miami WMC

Well, we’ve gotten to that special time of the year again, the time when the weather starts warming up and the dance music industry starts preparing for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC). No matter how many other events I attend, WMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Warm weather, palm trees, the beach, and incredible music always make for a memorable combination!

As usual, RV will have a presence at WMC this year. Our aim is to bring you coverage of some of the best events. In this post, I want to highlight a few of the parties we’ll be covering…

For starters, we’ll be covering the Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg pool party, at the Surcomber Hotel, on Thursday, March 25th. This should be epic! The party will be going from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Let’s picture it…sitting poolside, sipping a mojito, everybody’s grooving to the pounding beats of these two reputed DJs. Nice!

On Thursday night, our focus will shift to Shine at the Shelbourne Hotel, where Hernan Cattaneo and Darren Emerson will be holding it down. I’ve seen both of these guys live, and the music was fantastic. They’ve both been getting the job done for years now, and I have no reason to think they’ll break the tradition this year.

On Friday night, another exciting party is going down at Shine. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, D. Ramirez, and Hybrid are going to be providing a musical odyssey for all comers. We’ll bring you a recap of this promising event.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll also be bringing you coverage of the 2010 Ultra Music Festival! This massive event represents the climax of the whole WMC week. As always, Ultra will showcase the talents of the world’s biggest DJs – Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Erick Morillo, and the list goes on and on!

As you can tell, it’ll be a busy few days down in Miami! Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on these events and some other amazing parties!

Gallery: HARD Haunted Mansion, Los Angeles

Here’s a bumper gallery of pictures from this weekend’s HARD Haunted Mansion party in Los Angeles, CA. Judging from the photos it was a killer event with no shortage of skimpy outfits, good times, candy bracelets and good people.
.
If you were there you’d have had the chance to check out acts like DeadMau5, 2ManyDJs, A-Trak, The Bloody Beetroots, Justice, The Basement Jaxx, Crookers, Major Lazer, Modeselektor, Zombie Nation, Steve Aoki and a bunch of others.

If you were there, what did you think of the event? Can you see yourself in the gallery below? Drop us a line using the comments below!

HARD Haunted Mansion 2009 – This Sounds Scary!

Hard_Haunted_Mansion

This weekend, I fear the city of Los Angeles is going to be turned to the darkside as HARD Haunted Mansion 2009 engulfs its raver community. With an event like this going down, we couldn’t resist bringing you coverage! One look at the talent for the party tells the story. You’ve got Deadmau5, Justice, Basement Jaxx, Modeselektor, The Bloody Beetroots, 2 Many DJs, Crookers, Shinichi Osawa, Steve Aoki, A-Trak, Don Rimini, Mixhell, Zombie Nation, and more! This is obviously going to be an intense, head-pounding experience.

The party is going down this Friday and Saturday (October 30th and 31st) – two days, two stages, and 16 hours of mind/life-altering tunes. The venue is The Shrine in downtown Los Angeles. I would tell you to hurry up and buy a ticket, but (alas) if you don’t have one, you’re probably out of luck because it’s SOLD OUT.

Our plan is to bring you a high-quality, exclusive photo gallery from the event – the idea being to give you a feel for the experience. In anticipation of our coverage of the event, we created a HARD Haunted Mansion profile page in our network, and we added FREE SETS by some of the biggest DJs from the event!

If you’re anywhere near L.A. this weekend, hopefully you’ve already got your ticket so you can go contribute to the madness. If you can’t make it out to the party, stay tuned to our blog for an inside look at the fun!

LovEvolution 2009 in San Francisco – We’ve Got You Covered!

LovEvolution

LovEvolution 2009 is going down in San Francisco this weekend, and (once again) Resonant Vibes is going to be on the frontline bringing you full exclusive coverage of the festivities!

Obviously, we’re super excited about attending LovEvolution 2009. The roster of artists performing at the event includes Deadmau5, Groove Armada, Eddie Halliwell, DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Andy Moor, Sharam, ATB, Green Velvet, Lee Coombs, Lee Burridge, Mark Farina, Danny Howells, Doc Martin, and more!

If you’ve been following RV for long enough, then you may recall that we actually attended the San Francisco LoveFest in 2006. Now, the organizers of the San Francisco Love Parade and San Francisco LoveFest have changed the name of the festival to LovEvolution. (The idea was to distinguish the event from another “Love Festival” event in Los Angeles.) In any case, it’s still the same great shindig, based on the incredibly positive energy and spirit of the original Love Parade in Berlin. Last year, 100,000 people showed up to enjoy the irresistible beats that were oozing out of the floats as they paraded through the streets of downtown San Francisco.

So what are we going to be doing at the festival? (…besides indulging our insatiable addictions to dance music!) Our game plan will be to get exclusive video, photos, and editorial content for our blog so that you can experience LovEvolution 2009 with us! We’re eager to capture the heart and soul of this event for the RV community.

In terms of our agenda – and this will come as no surprise – we plan to be hanging with our favorite underground party crew, listed Productions! As always, these guys have cooked up some super-exciting LovEvolution events. First off, on Friday, we’re going to be at listed’s party featuring Tyrant (Lee Burridge and Craig Richards)! This is Tyrant’s first appearance in America in 10 years, and my expectations for this are absurdly high! Next, on Saturday, we’re going to be hitching a ride on the “listed Gets Twisted” float. We’ll be riding through the streets of San Francisco listening to the tunes of Lee Burridge, Danny Howells, Craig Richards, Bill Patrick, Hac Le, Mike Khoury, Nikita, Dory, Hoj, and Naveen G. THAT’S GONNA BE BANANAS!

We’ll have coverage of everything for you.

Just stay tuned to the RV blog for more LovEvolution goodies and updates.

PS If you’re interested, we’ve added mixes to our network by nearly all of the DJs who are performing at LovEvolution, so you can download them for free!

Ready for some good news?

We just posted 16 live DJ sets from the Electric Zoo Festival in the RV Network, and you can download them all by clicking HERE.

This means you don’t have to go fishing for them online, fooling around on those glitchy, spam-loaded websites like RapidShare, MediaFire, etc. I don’t know about you, but I really resent the way those sites spam you and make you jump through hoops to get your downloads.

In the RV Network, it’s easy…all you have to do is click “download,” and you can grab the mix.

The 16 sets we have came from the DJs listed below…

Armin Van BuurenChus and CeballosDavid GuettaSeth Troxler

Electric Zoo Festival – Day 1 Recap – Wow!

If I had to sum up the first day of The Electric Zoo Festival, I would use one word, “WOW“!
.
It’s early on Sunday afternoon now, and I wanted to give you a brief recap of Day 1 before heading back for Day 2!
.
Before I dive into this recap, I should mention that we’re going to have loads of great content from this event! Sam is working away preparing the photos from yesterday (and, from what I’ve seen, they look amazing!). I also just finished reviewing all of the video from yesterday, and we’ve got exclusive footage from epic performances by Benny Benassi, Roger Sanchez, Marco Carola, Deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, and more! …so stay tuned to the blog to catch this content right when it hits.
.
And now back to the recap…
.
The first thing I want to say is that it was much easier to get to the festival than Sam or I had expected. We took the subway up to Harlem and then got on a bus that took us right to Randall’s Island. There was a long line of Electric Zoo-goers, and they were hyped up! People were sharing drinks, and you could just feel the energy in the air – that unique, unbridled, intense New York City party energy!
.
When we got to the festival, I was quite impressed with how well-organized it seemed to be. Sam and I moved painlessly through the registration process and got into the event with just the right amount of security checks in place.
.
When we got onto the festival grounds, I felt an instant rush and found myself saying and thinking, “This is (more…)

Electric Zoo Festival, NYC – We’ve Got You Covered!

The Electric Zoo Festival

The Electric Zoo Festival is going down in New York City this weekend, and it’s on track to be one of the most significant dance music festivals of 2009! …so of course RV is going to be there on the frontline bringing you full exclusive coverage of the festivities…I’m talking about exclusive video, photos, interviews, and more ;)

Why do I say The Electric Zoo Festival is “on track to be one of the most significant dance music festivals of 2009″? …after all, that’s a strong statement when you consider the likes of WMC, Sonar, DEMF, etc.

Well, let’s start with perhaps the most important factor for any dance music festival – the talent. The Electric Zoo lineup is simply first-rate, and (I think just as importantly) it’s diverse! You’ve got the rock star acts like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Benny Benassi, and Deadmau5. Then, you’ve got the lords of techno like Richie Hawtin and Adam Beyer, along with Steve Bug, Marco Carola, and Audion. You’ve also got dance floor pounders like Danny T (one of my all-time favorites!), Victor Calderone, and Roger Sanchez…and the list goes on and on!

In addition to the event’s exceptional lineup, I also think The Electric Zoo Festival will be special simply because it’s in New York City! This point is not to be overlooked. NYC is not only the city where I fell down the dance music rabbit hole, it’s also a city that has had an enormous impact on the dance music scene since the earliest days. When you research the history of dance music, you inevitably read about legendary figures and clubs in NYC.

I’ve been in touch with the dance music scene in NYC for about a decade now – from the heyday of Sasha and Digweed at Twilo to Paul Van Dyk in Central Park – and I’d have to say The Electric Zoo Festival represents a new milestone for the city. I mean no disrespect to previous NYC festivals like Minitek, but The Electric Zoo Festival is setting a new benchmark. Simply put, I don’t remember a dance music festival going down in NYC that had such a diverse, star-studded lineup while being so well-promoted and organized.

Since this is a major dance music event, we would be remiss in our duties if we didn’t cover it for you! So, just as we did for WMC and DEMF, RV is going to be bringing you in-depth, exclusive coverage of The Electric Zoo Festival. We’ll be getting video coverage of the primo sets. We’ll also be getting professional-grade photos and behind-the-scenes audio interviews…and, of course, we’ll give you some editorial content to give you unique insight into the event.

Our aim is to help you experience The Electric Zoo Festival with us!

Deadmau5 and Xfer Sample Pack from Loopmasters

Deadmau5

We just added a seriously buzzworthy sample pack to our store…Deadmau5 and Xfer Records have delivered the goods for Loopmasters!

We have over 100 sample packs on our site, but I thought this one deserved a blog post.

As you may know, Xfer Records is a label started by Deadmau5 and his longtime friend and studio accomplice Steve Duda for their collaborations, such as BSOD, and WTF? with Tommy Lee and DJ Aero. These guys have set a new benchmark with their latest release: Loopmasters Presents: Deadmau5 Xfer.

An extensive amount of gear was used for the package – including circuit-bent and analogue drum machines, vintage analogue synths such as Moog and Arp, original acoustic drums and other sounds recorded in various professional studios. A variety of digital sound sources were used as well for creating new sounds, such as FFT synthesis, additive/subtractive synthesis, even custom DSP routines coded by Steve Duda in C++.

Here’s what Steve Duda had to say about the pack:

Despite the large amount of sample CDs out there, we saw a niche for one geared towards building blocks of EDM with a twist – this one is royalty-free, so it can be used in original productions with no fear of legal repercussions from the original artists who are often sampled on other CD libraries. We tried to make an assortment featuring a variety of sound sources, which aren’t overproduced so they can fit into a production work-flow without stamping their own flavor on a mix or being overly-recognizable.

I’ve included the two-minute preview for this pack below. Dig in!

Three Nice Progressive House Tracks

I planned to write a few more blog posts this week, so I’m going to go through our store and try to pull out some goodies for you ;)

I’ll organize my posts according to genre. To start things off, I went through our progressive house section to find three new releases that spoke to me. Here’s what I found…

(…as usual, you can conveniently load all of these prviews in our media player by clicking HERE.)

Phaleon

The first track I picked out is called "Phaleon" by Dario Maffia. It was released on NuZone Gears. I’m not really familiar with the artist or label, but that won’t stop me from recognizing a good track when I hear it ;) This one has a gentle melody that has an emotive effect…which is I’m sure what Dario intended. Definitely good stuff!

The next track I picked out is called "Alone with You," and it’s by Deadmau5. Cleary, Deadmau5 is an artist who has absolutely blown up in the past year or so. I must confess, however, that I’ve never really been on his bandwagon, but this is a good piece of work. …I may need to explore some of his other off-the-beaten-path productions…

Here’s another solid track in our progressive section. It’s called "Rusty," and it’s by Murat Uncuoglu. I’ve not heard of Murat, but I am certainly familiar with Vapour Recordings. …everytime I see one of their releases, I pay attention. This track is cool; it has a different sound to it.

Enjoy!
