Headed Down for Miami WMC 2010!

Miami WMC

Well, we’ve gotten to that special time of the year again, the time when the weather starts warming up and the dance music industry starts preparing for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC). No matter how many other events I attend, WMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Warm weather, palm trees, the beach, and incredible music always make for a memorable combination!

As usual, RV will have a presence at WMC this year. Our aim is to bring you coverage of some of the best events. In this post, I want to highlight a few of the parties we’ll be covering…

For starters, we’ll be covering the Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg pool party, at the Surcomber Hotel, on Thursday, March 25th. This should be epic! The party will be going from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Let’s picture it…sitting poolside, sipping a mojito, everybody’s grooving to the pounding beats of these two reputed DJs. Nice!

On Thursday night, our focus will shift to Shine at the Shelbourne Hotel, where Hernan Cattaneo and Darren Emerson will be holding it down. I’ve seen both of these guys live, and the music was fantastic. They’ve both been getting the job done for years now, and I have no reason to think they’ll break the tradition this year.

On Friday night, another exciting party is going down at Shine. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, D. Ramirez, and Hybrid are going to be providing a musical odyssey for all comers. We’ll bring you a recap of this promising event.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll also be bringing you coverage of the 2010 Ultra Music Festival! This massive event represents the climax of the whole WMC week. As always, Ultra will showcase the talents of the world’s biggest DJs – Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Erick Morillo, and the list goes on and on!

As you can tell, it’ll be a busy few days down in Miami! Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on these events and some other amazing parties!

Great Mix from Dory – Captures Vibe from WMC Party

I found another really impressive mix in the Free RV network. This one comes from Dory, a listed resident. She bangs it out with the throbbing tech house, capturing the vibe of the listed area at our Cecille and Olso Records showcase in Miami. To download the mix for free, GO HERE!
.

Dory hails from just outside Chicago. She was raised by classical music junkies who persuaded he to take up piano at an early age. She got exposure to electronic music at clubs like Medusa’s and Limelight. Later, while attending Northwestern University, Dory landed a DJ slot at WNUR. After working as the station’s Promotions Director and doing her own events, she secured positions at several record labels.

Dory now calls Los Angeles home, but she travels all around rocking dancefloors as yet another gifted member of the listed crew.

I’ve had this mix on repeat for the last few days! It reminds me a lot of the incredible tunes we had at our WMC party.

While you’re checking out Dory’s mix, feel free to poke around our network and find some of the other killer mixes…I guarantee we’ve got some goodies for you! You can rate the mixes and comment on them. We want everybody participating in our community!

Enjoy!

RV in support of Get Wreckless… Miami here we come!

So, it’s about 2:15 am, Sunday morning and I’m still sorting through the last few things I need to get together for the trip to Miami – I have to be up at about 6.30 to get leave for the airport at 7, but there’s still time for one quick blog post!

I’m sipping on a Founders “Double Trouble” IPA, which is going down rather well, getting me in the mood for the next week of over indugence. I’m a big fans of hoppy-beers, and this one is really good. I think I’ll make a point of trying to write each of my daily WMC blog posts with a quality beer for company, and I’ll let you know what I’m drinking as it’s going down.

Anyway, for people that read this blog, you’re probably up-to-date with what RV will be doing in Miami over the following week. Although I’m sure there will be many more things that happen that aren’t planned,  I have a nice addition to the RV Itinerary to announce.

RV will be also in attendence at the Get Wreckless party, on Thursday 3/26. The event is being held at the Chelsea Hotel, at 9th/Washington. It’s a FREE party with a really good underground techno line up. Marc Asken (Leftroom Recordings) and Kyle Geiger (Drumcode) are headlining, with a bunch of other up-and-coming DJs in support.

The Leeeeky Tikki cruise is also on Thursday between 3-8pm, so we plan to do all the pre- and post-cruise partying at the Chelsea as it goes from 12pm-12a. You should definitely come along and introduce yourself, as we’re handing out store credits, and other goodies too.

OK, time to get packed, and try to catch a few hours of shut-eye before the madness starts!

RV’s Itinerary for WMC

I’ve already written several posts about RV’s plans for this year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, but I figured I’d write one more quick recap here.

.

The Conference – On Tuesday (the 24th) and Wednesday (the 25th), we will have a booth at the Miami Beach Resort & Spa’s conference area. At our booth, we’ll be handing out promotional items, conducting video interviews, and personally signing people up to join the new RV 2.0 community.

Leeeeky Tikki Boat Party – On Thursday, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, we’ll be doing it up with Lee Burridge on the Leeeeky Tikki Boat Party. This is going to be epic!

Scandal – On Thursday night, from 11:00pm to 5:00am, we’ll be dropping by the Proton Radio and frisky Radio Scandal party. The lineup for this one is incredible – top-qulity progressive talent!

Cecille & Oslo Records Showcase – On Saturday we’ll co-presenting the Cecille & Oslo Records Showcase. This party has received Massive Support and promises to be one of the best events we’ve ever done.

All through next week, you can expect us to be blogging and giving you up-to-the-moment information, video, and photos for our trip.

We’re super excited, and we hope to see you down there!

Made Event Takes Time to Answer a Few Questions

Sunday School for Degenerates is being marketed as The 24-Hour Party, and to be fair it’s about true.

There are several very long parties with stellar line-ups at WMC this year; like the 18-hour Toolroom Knights/Viva vs Cadenza party at Space starting on Thursday night, and plenty of other 12- hour ones to choose from.

The fact is that during WMC you can keep the party going for 24-hours a day for about 6 days straight – but you need to bounce from place to place. Whatever way you look at it, the finalé to a very long week is 24- hours of Sunday School, with it’s who’s-who of techno talent and some very frazzled party-goers it’s a bit hard to top.

As their PR machine is moving into high gear I though I’d try and get a few questions answered by Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma from Made Event, with the hope that I might find out something interesting that hasn’t been covered by their press releases.

Firstly, congratulations on your nomination in the Best One-Off Club Night category at the Club World Awards for the 2008 Sunday School For Degenerates party.

Thanks!

Can you give a brief introduction to Made Event please; how did you get started and how long have you been throwing parties? How many years have you been doing events in Miami?

Well, we’ve been together for longer than we’ve been throwing parties together, and we’ve been throwing parties together for almost 8 years! It came out of a club we had in NYC called arc. We did Saturdays there dubbed, “Saturdays are Made at arc”. Our Danny Howells monthly residency was probably the most notorious series to come out of that time. That was when we were doing Danny Howells "Made in Bed" at WMC. Those events were also quite successful.

For me, part of the allure of Sunday School was that it was held at Pawn Shop which has since closed down. Apart from it’s capacity, why did you decide to move it to the Ice Palace given the number of other venues that would have been interested in hosting the event?

Definitely the ‘terrace’ area which is basically a big lawn with gorgeous palm trees was a big deciding factor. And we really like the inside of the warehouse that we are building out because it has an old wood beam ceiling which we know will be great for the sound and will create a warm vibe for the inside portion. Also, we really wanted a venue that wasn’t an existing club, because this allows us more creative freedom. Everything will be tailored to the concept of The 24 hour party, there is a natural progression to the event. We are so excited about the space, that we’re encouraging people to come early to pick up their 24 hour wristband and see the place, because we think once people see it they won’t want to leave!

From what I can tell, The Ice Palace is a film studio that can hold several different stages. Can you tell me a little more about who’s doing the space design and how you plan to theme it? Exactly how many rooms of sound we can expect? What’s the overall capacity of the venue?

We are designing the space, we hope that people have come to realize what Made is about; our main theme is always the best possible sound. For Sunday School, another main theme has been the people, its the end of the week and everyone is there to let loose one last time. It’s one big 24 hour adventure that everyone is in together. It gets crazy, in a good way! ;) They’ll be some surprises for sure, we don’t want to give it all away…There is one main room inside for the night portion, there will also be an open air lounge area where people can sit outside to chill during the night. There is some overlap with the inside and outside during the morning hours, and then from noon on the whole party shifts to outside.

The line up looks very tasty so I have to ask if any of the time slots been decided yet? If so can you share them with us? I’m excited about the outdoor terrace area for the daytime, can you spill the beans about who’ll be playing out there?

Made Event has always put on some of the best events at WMC, and had some of the best sound systems thanks to Integral. Being a sound geek are you able to describe what we can expect from Integral this year? Will it come close to the system they designed for Bed three years ago?

Sound is always very important to us because our parties are first and foremost about the music. We strive for sound that is warm, enveloping, and has an impact, yet that is not irritating, or jarring. We are constantly trying to improve what we do, so hopefully the sound will be better than Bed three years ago!

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions.

RV Joins the Scandal

It’s time for another news flash…RV has now officially joined the Scandal!

Just a few days ago, I wrote a blog post to commend frisky and Proton for coming together in a show of real edm unity to throw a WMC bash. Well, with so many positive vibes in the air, we couldn’t resist trying to get involved with this event. So we’ve been in touch with the Proton and frisky crews, and now we’ve become an official sponsor!

What this means is that the RV crew will be at the gig in full effect, and we’ll be giving out goodies for all attendees (as if you needed any further incentive to come check this shindig out).

If you don’t already know, this party’s going down on Thursday, March 26, from 11:00pm to 5:00am at Hot Tuna of South Beach (764 Washington Avenue). With Proton and frisky putting their muscle behind it, this event promises to be killer! The lineup includes Jody Wisternoff, Miss Nine, Eelke Kleijn, Pole Folder, Royal Sapien, and DJ Kira.

Clearly, you don’t wanna miss this, so get your pre-sale tickets here

If you make it, you’ll find me somewhere near a speaker…brew in hand, gettin’ down.

EDM Unity – frisky and Proton Join Forces for WMC ‘09

Over the past month or so, I noticed that friskyRadio and Proton Radio were being relatively quiet about their plans for WMC this year…and now I know why ;)

These guys are joining forces to deliver what has the makings of a super-tight event! On Thursday, March 26th, they’ve got Jody Wisternoff, Royal Sapien, and our own RV DJ, Eelke Kleijn, among others, getting on the decks for what I’m sure will be a night of incredible progressive tunes!

You may be wondering why I’m writing about this party, especially since we’re presenting a party with Lee Burridge on the same day. Well, I’ll give you two reasons…First, you can actually make it to both parties. Second, I’m really liking this show of unity!

There’s a lot of competition in the electronic music industry – artists competing to sell tracks, DJs competing for fan support, radio stations competing for listeners, and yes, download stores competing for customers…but at the end of the day, I sincerely believe we’re all on the same team! We all need to be enjoying this music and working together to help the rest of the world realize how incredible it is! …so I’m digging the fact that frisky and Proton are joining forces.

…who knows, one day you may even find yourself at at RV-Beatport shindig, with cats and dogs holding hands on the dance floor :D

listed and RV present the Cecille and Oslo Records Showcase

As you can see from Eddie’s post below we’re pleased to be co-presenting the Leeeeky Tikki party with listed Productions. Well, not being content to present only one party, we thought it would be a good idea to partner with listed again to deliver what is already being touted to be one of the parties of WMC this year; the Cecille and Oslo showcase at the Victor Hotel on March 28.

Cecille Records was founded by Nick Curly and Marc Scholl, with an approach towards releasing music with a sound somewhere between deep, minimal house and techno. With the releases from the likes of Curly, Andomat3000 and Robert Dietz it’s clear they are holding true to those values.

Oslo Records, was the result of Federico Molinari and Nekes (Nektarios Danias) coming together in 2007 to start a label that would be motivated by talented artists and focussed on releasing music with a sound somewhere between house and techno.

In June of 2007, Oslo Records released Johnny D.’s ‘Manipulation’ 12” which makes no apologies for the combination of stripped down and driving tech sounds, with live percussive elements layered on top. The Nekes remix provided some minimal contrast and helped put both Johnny D. and the label on the map after it received strong support.

It’s interesting to point out that the minimal trend seems to be almost over these days, and a fusion style of tribal tech-house along with nu-disco stuff is getting a lot attention. With either one the trend is heading back towards productions with some life, soul and real instruments – rather than just a few clicks an bleeps over the top of a kick drum. With the ‘Manipulation’ releases you can see that Oslo were already ahead of the curve when that release come out, and now the rest of the scene is playing catch up.

And now the two labels come together in Miami to provide the sounds for the pool area at the Victor Hotel on Saturday, March 28. The listed residents will be heading up room two, with their special guests—who RV are very excited about—so it promises to be quite an event.

All I can say is that if you are planing on making the trip to Miami then you should plan to attend. It’s guaranteed to be a ridiculous 12 hours of some of the best house, and techno to be found in Miami that week.

We’ll be there giving some gift cards away as part of our new site promotion so don’t be shy, come over and introduce yourself, and don’t miss out!

Tickets are on sale now through Resident Advisor HERE.

RV and listed Bringing You Lee Burridge at WMC!

We’ve teamed up with listed Productions yet again…and we’re getting ready to make a serious impact at WMC 2009…

On Thurday, March 26th, RV and listed are bringing you the Leeeeky Tikki boat party featuring Lee Burridge. This is going to be EPIC!

In our history, RV has been involved in a number of events, but I can honestly say I’m more excited about this one than any other in the past :D …it’s not just the fact that Lee Burridge is such an acclaimed DJ (e.g. his being ranked the #10 DJ in the world by Resident Advisor). Rather, it’s the fact that this party comes at a unique time in our company’s development. RV is taking off this year, and we’re gonna hit the afterburners at WMC 2009.

So here’s how things are gonna work…

The boat will set sail and 3:00pm, with Mike Khoury assuming opening duties. We’ll remain at sea for five hours, during which time all attendees will be getting their heads properly pounded by Mr. Burrdige :D

We’re going to have some special goodies for everybody on the boat. I won’t go into the details here, but I will say they’ll be unique, and they’ll be real crowd pleasers!

A lite snack will also be provided, and I should also mention that there will be an OPEN BAR!

This is going to be a super-special event for us since we’ll be celebrating the launch of our version 2.0 website!

We can’t wait, and we hope you’re on board to share a special time with us.

If you want more details about the party, just shoot an email to us at support@resonantvibes.com. Tickets are going really quickly, so don’t sleep!
