Headed Back up to NYC

new-york-city

Last month, I went up to NYC and checked out some hot events. (See my posts about the Save the Cannibals and Simian Mobile Disco parties.) Next week, I’m planning to head back up to the Big Apple and to share some more goodies on our blog (like new music, pictures, etc.)…

I fell in love with NYC the first time I visited (when I was 18 years old). My girlfriend at the time was a student at NYU. I remember when I first got there, she told me to quit gawking at all the tall buildings because I might get us mugged.

Anyway, fast forward 13 years to now, and NYC still has a special place in my heart. My current girlfriend lives there, and RV has a number of business and industry relationships in the City…but there’s more to the connection than that…NYC is where I was first able to immerse myself in the electronic music scene. Well before the days of RV, I was checking out underground electronic music at super trendy lounges in Soho and around the lower Eastside. I was also hitting world class clubs like Twilo and Vinyl, racking up some incredible memories.

I miss the good ol’ days in NYC; I feel like the City changed a lot in the wake of 9-11…I’ve changed a lot as well…but some things are still the same; I still love electronic music, and NYC still has an incredible electronic music scene ;)

My next trip to the City is scheduled for May 13th through May 17th. While I’m there, I’ll be bringing you coverage of three killer underground events…

Save the Cannibals NYC Photo Gallery (April 18, 2009)

Last Saturday’s Save the Cannibals event at Rebel in NYC was incredible! I’ve been to a ton of events in NYC, and this one definitely stands out as one of my favorites. Deepak Sharma played a flawless opening set, carefully building the energy and catering to the crowd’s needs. Paco Osuna got on the decks afterward and played the role of dance floor destroyer.

I’m not a great photographer, but I took some shots just to give our blog readers a sense for the vibe at this special event. Enjoy!

Save the Cannibals NYC Event + BLAZIN’ HOT Mix from Deepak Sharma

Save the Cannibals

I’m writing this post to share my weekend plans and to share a Blazin’ Hot mix from Deepak Sharma…

As far as the weekend plans go, I’m headed up to New York City, and I’ll be attending the Save the Cannibals event on Saturday, April 18th!

Save the Cannibals has really been making waves of late with gigs and/or podcasts from the likes of Steve Bug, Adultnapper, Matthew Dear, Cassy, Lee Burridge, Martin Landsky, Dennis Ferrer, Sebo K, Seth Troxler, and others.

The headliner for this Saturday’s event will be Paco Osuna. Paco’s cannibal debut is highly anticipated, especially since a snowstorm canceled his last NYC gig. Paco is a Spaniard, and he’s reputed for his "impeccable programming and creative use of effects." Deepak Sharma, manager of Hidden Recordings, will be playing the opening set, and he’ll be showcasing a slew of unreleased cuts from his imprint. Bottom Line: This should be a solid event!

If you’re in NYC this weekend and you’d like to get your head pounded by some underground techno, just swing by. The party starts at 10pm at Rebel (251 West 30th Street). If you want more details about the event, just click here.

Deepak SharmaNow it’s on to my second reason for writing this post…I’ve got a great mix for you. This one comes from Deepak Sharma.

I’m particularly proud to highlight this mix because it’s going to be the next Save the Cannibals podcast, and it’s been available in the RV network for weeks!

In this mix, Deepak maintains an irresistable, laidback, techy vibe from start to finish. The transitions are clean, and the programming feels just right. I’ve listened to it a bunch of times, and I think Deepak’s playing his part in helping NYC carve out it’s own techno sound. There’s a uniqueness to the set, and it’s got me quite excited to hear Deepak and Paco Osuna play on the Integral sound system at the upcoming Save the Cannibals gig!

So, you know the drill from here…click the play icon below, turn the volume up, and Enjoy!
