Movement Electronic Music Festival Final Line-Up Announced

Pretty Lights
PRETTY LIGHTS PLAYS THE RED BULL STAGE AT THE 2009 MOVEMENT ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

Today’s announcement brings the total number of acts that have been scheduled thus far to 106.

Richie Hawtin, Little Dragon, The Dirtbombs, Flying Lotus, Delano Smith, Space Time Continuum, plus 47 more acts have been secured to perform at Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit’s Hart Plaza, May 28-30.

There are many names that will be must-see acts for festival goers this year. Little Dragon is a band from Sweden on the rise due to their inherent talent and also their supporting role in the recent Gorillaz album and tour.  Just a couple of weeks ago they played live on Jimmy Fallon. One of the more recognized names in ambient electronic music, Space Time Continuum, will play live at the festival for the first time since 2000. He has worked with notables such as Terrence McKenna and Bill Laswell, to name just a few.  Legendary Electro act, Detroit’s own Aux 88 is headlining the Red Bull Music Academy Stage with a full-scale live performance.  In this day and age of laptop musicians, Aux 88 is a sight to behold, practically bringing their whole studio on  stage with them.  20 year Dance music veteran Victor Calderone will bring his ever-evolving sound to Movement.  After being a resident of Pacha in New York for years, and working with Madonna to remix many singles for her, Victor has taken his formidable music knowledge and dj skills back to the underground, heading in a more techno-centric direction.

One year after an epic Plastikman performance on the Vitaminwater main stage that was followed the next night by a performance of his classic tracks on Beatport stage, Richie Hawtin returns to Movement, this time with many of the notable acts from his roster on stage with him, including Ambivalent and Gaiser.

The Dirtbombs, a Detroit garage-punk band, will offer festival-goers a brand new twist on some Techno classics from the 80s and 90s.  During their live set at the Movement Festival they will perform tracks from their album “Party Store” which offers the band’s interpretation of some of Detroit’s most recognized Techno hits.

Some of the reinterpreted tracks festival-goers should expect to hear are “Alleys of Your Mind” originally by Cybotron, “Strings of Life” originally by Derrick May, “Good Life” originally by Kevin Saunderson, “Bug in the Bassbin” originally by Carl Craig as Innerzone Orchestra.

There’s is no bigger honor than playing the Vitaminwater stage at Movement this year,” said The Dirtbombs drummer Ben Blackwell.  ”To be covering the songs of Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Mike Banks, et al in front of a crowd that knows their catalog inside and out will be a challenge to say the least.”

The full line-up and ticketing information is available on the Paxahau site here.

Rootwire Music and Arts Festival

RootwireI thought I would let the Resonant Vibes community know about what I consider to be one of the most exciting and forward thinking music festivals to hit this nation in several years. ROOTWIRE music and arts festival, which will take place August 6 – 8, 2010 in Logan Ohio, has been created by Papadosio and is not your regular massive corporate festival with mega headliners and high priced entrance fees. Quite the opposite! This festival has focused on bringing together the best of the best up and coming performers in the live music scene! In particular there will be a large slew of Livetronica acts such as Papadosio, Zoogma, EP3, The Malah and a whole bunch of my favorite bands to see live right now, including my good buddies Strange Arrangement! On top of the stellar lineup this festival only cost $50 dollars for 3 days of camping and access to all stages. Let it be known there will be no skimping on production elements either, these guys are taking this very seriously and truly going to give the fans a most epic experience that will be hard to forget :)
.
A STATEMENT FROM THE FESTIVAL:
ROOTWIRE Music and Arts Festival is all about shifting focus. From the mundane and nihilistic viewpoints of large corporate festivals that only exist to make profits, we have put in the effort to avoid all the common pitfalls of today’s modern music festivals. To bring about ideals of enlightenment, community, and social change that is real and tangible.
.
In our travels we have met amazing artists, who are sending the very same vibrations we work so hard to recreate on a daily basis. We have collected a lineup that will not only deeply move and impress fans, but serve as a reminder that real good underground music and art exists today in full swing.
.
As for the musicians, we have shared stages with them, witnessed their shows, and made sure that each performance will be a unique and captivating experience. We are confident these are the bands you will see emerge from today’s thriving underground scene as tomorrows headliners.
.
Another way ROOTWIRE is shifting focus is through featuring visual art, in the same way we feature music. We have searched far and wide for live artists who wow and inspire people with a “here and now” approach to their work. In addition to live performances, the will be a large scale tent which will act as a walk through psychedelic gallery displaying finished pieces and prints.
.
Hoopers, poi artists and other performers will rejoice when they see our raised stands located right in front of stages, allowing them not only to be featured but also allowing them to be part of the show. So in the spirit of ROOTWIRE, we encourage you to bring whatever you do, be it juggling, hooping, uni-cycling, etc and be an inspiration to everyone.
.
THE LINEUP:
Papadosio
Zoogma
The Werks
The Malah
The Macpodz

.
Make sure to check out http://www.rootwirefestival.com/ to get your tickets! This is an event you will not want to miss, trust me :)
.
Look for reviews of ROOTWIRE from me and Matt “Eldo” Eldridge to hit the blog after we return from what I anticipate to be one of the most fun and interesting weekends of summer 2010!

Ricardo Villalobos cancels Movement 2010, Hawtin to sub in…

Ricardo Villalobos Cancels Movement 2010 | Resonant Vibes Electronic Music BlogWell, that TOTALLY sucks. Here’s the scoop:
.
Ricardo Villalobos scheduled performance this weekend at the Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford Fiesta has been cancelled, but Richie Hawtin has agreed to perform in his place on the BeatPort Stage Sunday, May 30 from 9 pm until midnight.
.
Goetz Guse of Cocoon Agency out of Frankfurt, Germany informed festival organizers today that Villalobos will not be able to perform at Movement. Guse said, Ricardo did not receive his Working VISA back in time due to US immigration Authorities at abroad consulates. Even with precocious legal support from the US as well as from Germany he still wasnt able to obtain the Working VISA due to unexpected bureaucratic obstacles.
.
Movement organizers expressed disappointment about the news regarding Villalobos, but are optimistic festival-goers will enjoy a Richie Hawtin performance as the replacement.
.
We are disappointed Ricardo is not able to make it, especially with it being so close to the festival, but the show must continue, said Jason Huvaere, the executive director of Movement. However, we are very grateful Richie agreed to fill in. Nowhere else will you get to experience Richie Hawtin presenting Plastikman live one night, and then the next night see an original Richie Hawtin DJ set, its going to be truly amazing.
.
The Plastikman live performance will be the headliner on the Vitaminwater Main Stage the first night of the festival, Saturday, May 29. It is scheduled for 11 p.m. to midnight. After Hawtin performs a three-hour set on the Beatport Stage, he will be aboard the sold out Voyage Royal: Im on a Boat 2 after party to perform with DJ Magda in place of Villalobos on the second floor of the Detroit Princess.

Movement 2010 Update – Villalobos and 31 Others Added to Lineup

Movement 2010

The Movement 2010 Electronic Music Festival in Detroit just got better! Yesterday, Paxahau announced that Ricardo Villalobos will be performing at the event, along with 31 other newly added acts like Booka Shade, Derrick May, Marco Carola, and Ghostland Observatory. Paxahau also announced the addition of a fifth stage, sponsored by Movement Torino.

Renowned minimal techno DJ/producer, Villalobos last performed in Detroit in 2002 when he played at the Paxahau Electronic Music Festival (PEMF), a four-day party that was held at the now closed Panacea Nighclub.

“Ricardo is looking forward to coming back to Detroit again after all these years,” said his agent Goetz Guse of Cocoon Agency out of Frankfurt, Germany. His return to the United States and Detroit for the Movement Electronic Music Festival is exclusive to Paxahau. He isnt booked to perform at any other venue in the States, and we dont anticipate he will be this year.”

In addition to Villalobos, the contemporary dance music duo Booka Shade from Berlin has been scheduled for a live performance, along with electro, rock, and funk duo Ghostland Observatory who will also perform live.

This Is Evolve (Miami Pool Party) – Photo Gallery

I’ve already written a post describing my positive experience at “This Is Evolve” – the Miami WMC pool party featuring Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg. The event was so good that I wanted to follow up by publishing a photo gallery…to give you an even better sense of what went down. Enjoy!

Ultra Music Festival 2010 – Exclusive Photo Gallery

Ultra Music Festival 2010 was a fantastic event. The anticipation for it was so high that it sold out! These photos were taken on Saturday, March 27. The weather was perfect, and the crowd was a special one. As you look through these photos, you’ll sense the positive energy on peoples’ faces. That’s the beauty of these festivals – getting tens of thousands of people together to share a special sliver of time and space.

The music was great and diverse. I caught noteworthy sets by Sasha and Digweed (always amazing!), Fedde Le Grand, Gareth Emery, and even a performance by hip hop icon Nas!

As usual, the Ultra Music Festival fulfilled its role as the finale of the Miami Winter Music Conference. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!

Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg in Miami

Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg

Last Thursday, Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg headlined a monumental pool party at the Surfcomber Hotel in Miami. No disrespect to the many other great events I attended at this year’s WMC, but this party was simply the best.

Before entering party, I got a backside view of it from the beach. As I walked along the shoreline, I could see all of the parties happening at the Ocean Drive hotels…one party after the next, with house music pumping at every turn – a truly beautiful thing. When I came to the backside view of the Surcomber, however, the scene was different. For starters, there was a large stage for the DJs. Everything about this party seemed bigger – the lights, the crowd, the speakers – you just knew this was a legit event!

After scoping out the scene, I made my way into the party and was immediately further impressed. Sander Kleinenberg was on the decks, playing a phenomenal daytime set. The sound system was perfectly arranged; no matter where you stood, the tunes were crisp and clear.

The crowd was just what you would expect; shirtless guys and hot girls in bikinis. The party environment was brilliantly designed. By day, you had the feeling that you were partying on the beach. One area of the party actually had sand and palm trees, while the pool was at the center of the other area. As day turned to night, you realized the true genius of the setup; the whole space turned into a club. There were lights, and you had the sense that you were getting down at a premier big-city venue, except that you were outside in perfect Miami nighttime weather!

As the evening progressed, Victor Calderone took us to the dark side. The crowd was ready for it, and he delivered – showing everybody the twisted, head-rearranging sort of tunes he’s accustomed to providing for the NYC underground.

This event will be long remembered by all who witnessed it.

Headed Down for Miami WMC 2010!

Miami WMC

Well, we’ve gotten to that special time of the year again, the time when the weather starts warming up and the dance music industry starts preparing for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC). No matter how many other events I attend, WMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Warm weather, palm trees, the beach, and incredible music always make for a memorable combination!

As usual, RV will have a presence at WMC this year. Our aim is to bring you coverage of some of the best events. In this post, I want to highlight a few of the parties we’ll be covering…

For starters, we’ll be covering the Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg pool party, at the Surcomber Hotel, on Thursday, March 25th. This should be epic! The party will be going from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Let’s picture it…sitting poolside, sipping a mojito, everybody’s grooving to the pounding beats of these two reputed DJs. Nice!

On Thursday night, our focus will shift to Shine at the Shelbourne Hotel, where Hernan Cattaneo and Darren Emerson will be holding it down. I’ve seen both of these guys live, and the music was fantastic. They’ve both been getting the job done for years now, and I have no reason to think they’ll break the tradition this year.

On Friday night, another exciting party is going down at Shine. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, D. Ramirez, and Hybrid are going to be providing a musical odyssey for all comers. We’ll bring you a recap of this promising event.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll also be bringing you coverage of the 2010 Ultra Music Festival! This massive event represents the climax of the whole WMC week. As always, Ultra will showcase the talents of the world’s biggest DJs – Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Erick Morillo, and the list goes on and on!

As you can tell, it’ll be a busy few days down in Miami! Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on these events and some other amazing parties!

Movement 2010 Line-Up Announced

Movement 2010 | Resonant Vibes Electronic Music Blog
Since 2000 electronic music fans from across the globe have made the pilgrimage every May to Detroit, the city where Techno music was born. 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of the Movement Festival (formerly DEMF) in Detroit.

In 2009 the Movement Electronic Music Festival recorded its best attendance figures to date since becoming a ticketed event in 2005.Some 83,322 people filled the outdoor venue last year.An international partnership was also forged with promoters from Torino Italy to create Movement Torino.

The rumors continue to be confirmed that the bearded techno-ber guru Hawtin will be hot on the festival circuit this year, headlining live as Plastikman. Other headliners included Model 500 and Inner City with a total of 70 acts announced today covering a spectrum of sounds from techno through to livetronica. My line-up highlights are: Agoria, Cassy, Chris Liebling, Derrick Carter, DJ Godfather, DJ Sneak, Ida Engberg, Italoboyz, Jamie Jones, Joel mull, John Acquaviva, Josh Wink, Luke Hess, Martin Buttrich, Martyn, Michael Meyer, Mt Scruff, Oner Ozer, Redio Slave, Robert Hood, Ryan Crosson, Simian Mobile Disco and Theo Parish. You can check the full list in the graphic below, as I couldn’t find a decent HTML list to copy and paste.

Ford are the presenting sponsor this year which adds testimony to how much the commercial reach of the festival has grown. The result might be a line-up that seems too mainstream for some of the techno puritanswho’s heads will be rammed in a sub in Made in Detroit area anywaybut one that should keep the rest of us revelers happy.

$40 early bird tickets are now on sale and all the details are to be found at http://www.paxahau.com/movement/
