Headed Down for Miami WMC 2010!

Miami WMC

Well, we’ve gotten to that special time of the year again, the time when the weather starts warming up and the dance music industry starts preparing for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC). No matter how many other events I attend, WMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Warm weather, palm trees, the beach, and incredible music always make for a memorable combination!

As usual, RV will have a presence at WMC this year. Our aim is to bring you coverage of some of the best events. In this post, I want to highlight a few of the parties we’ll be covering…

For starters, we’ll be covering the Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg pool party, at the Surcomber Hotel, on Thursday, March 25th. This should be epic! The party will be going from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Let’s picture it…sitting poolside, sipping a mojito, everybody’s grooving to the pounding beats of these two reputed DJs. Nice!

On Thursday night, our focus will shift to Shine at the Shelbourne Hotel, where Hernan Cattaneo and Darren Emerson will be holding it down. I’ve seen both of these guys live, and the music was fantastic. They’ve both been getting the job done for years now, and I have no reason to think they’ll break the tradition this year.

On Friday night, another exciting party is going down at Shine. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, D. Ramirez, and Hybrid are going to be providing a musical odyssey for all comers. We’ll bring you a recap of this promising event.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll also be bringing you coverage of the 2010 Ultra Music Festival! This massive event represents the climax of the whole WMC week. As always, Ultra will showcase the talents of the world’s biggest DJs – Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Erick Morillo, and the list goes on and on!

As you can tell, it’ll be a busy few days down in Miami! Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on these events and some other amazing parties!

Amsterdam Dance Event – Armada Night

Chicane live at the Armada Night event

This week, from Wednesday to Saturday, Amsterdam is the center of the world’s dance music industry.

I’m Storyteller, and it’s my pleasure to bring coverage of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) to the RV community.

Oddly enough, I wasn’t initially planning to go to ADE because I have so many work-related deadlines this week. I had identified some parties I wanted to check out, but I didn’t get around to actually pulling the trigger. My plans changed about a week ago when RV contacted me to discuss the idea of covering ADE as a guest blogger. This was all the incentive I needed; so I got tickets to some of the events, and I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with you here on the RV blog! There are tons of parties, taking place in more than 40 locations. ADE is exciting, and I’ve really been looking forward to it!

Last night, I kicked off my ADE week by checking out the Armada Night, featuring Blake Jarrell, Way Out West, Chicane (live), and Armin van Buuren!

I’m a sucker for the old trance/progressive legends. I’ve been an especially big Chicane fan for years. I chose to go to this event just to see Chicane and then I found out, only a couple hours before the party, that Way Out West would be there as well!

When I arrived at the Escape venue in Amsterdam, Way Out West had already started, which meant I was too late to catch Blake Jarrell in action. They played groovy progressive tracks, occasionally sprinkling in Way Out West classics like “Killa” and “Mindcircus,” which are great tunes. I think they also played some tracks from their forthcoming album. The crowd was absolutely loving it, and the atmosphere in general was great.

Next, Chicane stepped up! As expected, this was the highlight of the evening for me. Everybody seemed to reach a state of euphoria as his live act progressed. I sure did, and so did the two girls from Singapore who I met and hung out with for the rest of the night. The roof nearly exploded with every track Chicane performed. Over the course of an hour, I heard all of his big hits like “Bruised Water,” “Offshore,” “Stoned in Love,” and “Don’t Give Up.” I loved every bit of it!

My newly found friends from Singapore kicked it up a notch when Armin started. In fact, the entire audience went mental as Armin took his place in the DJ Booth. After all, he’s still Mixmag’s #1 DJ, and he was probably the DJ most people came to see. Soon, punchy progressive trance was filling the room. The party kept pulsing until the early morning…eventually, it was time to go home.

Until this event, I hadn’t been to any ADE parties, but if this is what the ADE is about, I will be back in the years to come. As I write this article, I can physically feel the excitement as well as the exhaustion from last night. The Armada Night was, without a doubt, one of the best parties I’ve been to in quite some time. It rekindled my love for the music of both Chicane and Way Out West.

Next up for this Friday: Jerome Isma-Ae and Remy – two of my favorite producers – and more…so stay tuned!

Download 16 Electric Zoo DJ Sets in the RV Network!

Steve Bug at Electric Zoo on Sunday

Ready for some good news?

We just posted 16 live DJ sets from the Electric Zoo Festival in the RV Network, and you can download them all by clicking HERE.

This means you don’t have to go fishing for them online, fooling around on those glitchy, spam-loaded websites like RapidShare, MediaFire, etc. I don’t know about you, but I really resent the way those sites spam you and make you jump through hoops to get your downloads.

In the RV Network, it’s easy…all you have to do is click “download,” and you can grab the mix.

The 16 sets we have came from the DJs listed below…

We’ve been blogging about The Electric Zoo Festival a lot this week, so this might be our last post on the subject…that is, until next year ;)

Some of these Electric Zoo DJ sets are incredible. We hope you enjoy listening to them half as much as we enjoyed hearing them at the event!

Electric Zoo Festival – Day 1 Recap – Wow!

If I had to sum up the first day of The Electric Zoo Festival, I would use one word, “WOW“!
.
It’s early on Sunday afternoon now, and I wanted to give you a brief recap of Day 1 before heading back for Day 2!
.
Before I dive into this recap, I should mention that we’re going to have loads of great content from this event! Sam is working away preparing the photos from yesterday (and, from what I’ve seen, they look amazing!). I also just finished reviewing all of the video from yesterday, and we’ve got exclusive footage from epic performances by Benny Benassi, Roger Sanchez, Marco Carola, Deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, and more! …so stay tuned to the blog to catch this content right when it hits.
.
And now back to the recap…
.
The first thing I want to say is that it was much easier to get to the festival than Sam or I had expected. We took the subway up to Harlem and then got on a bus that took us right to Randall’s Island. There was a long line of Electric Zoo-goers, and they were hyped up! People were sharing drinks, and you could just feel the energy in the air – that unique, unbridled, intense New York City party energy!
.
When we got to the festival, I was quite impressed with how well-organized it seemed to be. Sam and I moved painlessly through the registration process and got into the event with just the right amount of security checks in place.
.
When we got onto the festival grounds, I felt an instant rush and found myself saying and thinking, “This is (more…)
