Headed Down for Miami WMC 2010!

Miami WMC

Well, we’ve gotten to that special time of the year again, the time when the weather starts warming up and the dance music industry starts preparing for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC). No matter how many other events I attend, WMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Warm weather, palm trees, the beach, and incredible music always make for a memorable combination!

As usual, RV will have a presence at WMC this year. Our aim is to bring you coverage of some of the best events. In this post, I want to highlight a few of the parties we’ll be covering…

For starters, we’ll be covering the Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg pool party, at the Surcomber Hotel, on Thursday, March 25th. This should be epic! The party will be going from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Let’s picture it…sitting poolside, sipping a mojito, everybody’s grooving to the pounding beats of these two reputed DJs. Nice!

On Thursday night, our focus will shift to Shine at the Shelbourne Hotel, where Hernan Cattaneo and Darren Emerson will be holding it down. I’ve seen both of these guys live, and the music was fantastic. They’ve both been getting the job done for years now, and I have no reason to think they’ll break the tradition this year.

On Friday night, another exciting party is going down at Shine. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, D. Ramirez, and Hybrid are going to be providing a musical odyssey for all comers. We’ll bring you a recap of this promising event.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll also be bringing you coverage of the 2010 Ultra Music Festival! This massive event represents the climax of the whole WMC week. As always, Ultra will showcase the talents of the world’s biggest DJs – Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Erick Morillo, and the list goes on and on!

As you can tell, it’ll be a busy few days down in Miami! Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on these events and some other amazing parties!

David Guetta’s “Sexy Chick” – Dance Music at My Gym?

At my gym (where I found myself pretty much everyday last year), they keep the radio set on a local station that plays a ceaseless stream of top-20 commercial tunes, on repeat. I usually bring my headphones to spare my ears the anguish of the full-frontal radio candy assault. However, I occasionally forget my headphones or don’t use them (because I failed to charge my iPod battery or something like that). On the occasions where I’m subjected to the “gym songs,” I have to fight against a small part of myself…a part of me that starts wondering, “Why do the masses spend their time listening to this rubbish when there’s an endless supply of incredible, original music coming out every week?” I actually told one of the guys who works at the gym that I was going to start wearing a t-shirt that says, “Why are the same whack-ass tunes always playing at this gym?” …of course, I realize these thoughts are not coming from a good place in me; it’s just hard to suppress them sometimes. Fortunately, I can vent about this to you, my fellow lovers of real, quality tunes ;)
.
In addition to just wanting to vent a bit, I mention all of the above to describe the context in which I heard David Guetta’s song “Sexy Chick” (real title, “Sexy Bitch”), featuring Akon. I started hearing this song in the gym, and it struck me because it’s dance music (though the folks at my gym don’t realize it). (You can check out the video for the song below.)

My reaction to hearing this song was one of mixed feelings. On the one hand, it was just another gym song in my mind. On the other hand, I was happy to hear dance music being foisted upon the masses. In writing this post, I ended up listening to the song a few times, and my final take on it is that I’m cool with it ;) I think it’s good overall to have dance music (in whatever form) reaching stations like the one my gym plays.
.
On a slightly different note, I’ve always found it interesting to observe and study the evolution of musical forms…jazz, classical music, hip hop, and dance music. While hip hop and pop still seem to have a stronghold on the American psyche at the moment, dance music is certainly making an impact on these genres in interesting ways…often in subtle ways that the masses are missing.

Download 16 Electric Zoo DJ Sets in the RV Network!

Steve Bug at Electric Zoo on Sunday

Ready for some good news?

We just posted 16 live DJ sets from the Electric Zoo Festival in the RV Network, and you can download them all by clicking HERE.

This means you don’t have to go fishing for them online, fooling around on those glitchy, spam-loaded websites like RapidShare, MediaFire, etc. I don’t know about you, but I really resent the way those sites spam you and make you jump through hoops to get your downloads.

In the RV Network, it’s easy…all you have to do is click “download,” and you can grab the mix.

The 16 sets we have came from the DJs listed below…

We’ve been blogging about The Electric Zoo Festival a lot this week, so this might be our last post on the subject…that is, until next year ;)

Some of these Electric Zoo DJ sets are incredible. We hope you enjoy listening to them half as much as we enjoyed hearing them at the event!
