Movement 2010 Update – Villalobos and 31 Others Added to Lineup

Movement 2010

The Movement 2010 Electronic Music Festival in Detroit just got better! Yesterday, Paxahau announced that Ricardo Villalobos will be performing at the event, along with 31 other newly added acts like Booka Shade, Derrick May, Marco Carola, and Ghostland Observatory. Paxahau also announced the addition of a fifth stage, sponsored by Movement Torino.

Renowned minimal techno DJ/producer, Villalobos last performed in Detroit in 2002 when he played at the Paxahau Electronic Music Festival (PEMF), a four-day party that was held at the now closed Panacea Nighclub.

“Ricardo is looking forward to coming back to Detroit again after all these years,” said his agent Goetz Guse of Cocoon Agency out of Frankfurt, Germany. “His return to the United States and Detroit for the Movement Electronic Music Festival is exclusive to Paxahau. He isn’t booked to perform at any other venue in the States, and we don’t anticipate he will be this year.”

In addition to Villalobos, the contemporary dance music duo Booka Shade from Berlin has been scheduled for a live performance, along with electro, rock, and funk duo Ghostland Observatory who will also perform live.

“We are feeling very good about how this year’s Movement lineup has come together,” said Jason Huvaere, Executive Director of Movement Electronic Music Festival. “With today’s announcement of Ricardo and the other 31 artists, the response we are getting is extremely positive.”

Movement 2010 Line-Up Announced

Movement 2010 | Resonant Vibes Electronic Music Blog
Since 2000 electronic music fans from across the globe have made the pilgrimage every May to Detroit, the city where Techno music was born. 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of the Movement Festival (formerly DEMF) in Detroit.

In 2009 the Movement Electronic Music Festival recorded its best attendance figures to date since becoming a ticketed event in 2005.  Some 83,322 people filled the outdoor venue last year.  An international partnership was also forged with promoters from Torino Italy to create Movement Torino.

The rumors continue to be confirmed that the bearded techno-über guru Hawtin will be hot on the festival circuit this year, headlining live as Plastikman. Other headliners included  Model 500 and Inner City with a total of 70 acts announced today covering a spectrum of sounds from techno through to livetronica. My line-up highlights are: Agoria, Cassy, Chris Liebling, Derrick Carter, DJ Godfather, DJ Sneak, Ida Engberg, Italoboyz, Jamie Jones, Joel mull, John Acquaviva, Josh Wink, Luke Hess, Martin Buttrich, Martyn, Michael Meyer, Mt Scruff, Oner Ozer, Redio Slave, Robert Hood, Ryan Crosson, Simian Mobile Disco and Theo Parish. You can check the full list in the graphic below, as I couldn’t find a decent HTML list to copy and paste.

Ford are the presenting sponsor this year which adds testimony to how much the commercial reach of the festival has grown. The result might be a line-up that seems too mainstream for some of the techno puritans—who’s heads will be rammed in a sub in Made in Detroit area anyway—but one that should keep the rest of us revelers happy.

$40 early bird tickets are now on sale and all the details are to be found at  http://www.paxahau.com/movement/

Claude VonStroke-Fabric 46

Claude VonStroke
Fabric 46
Fabric London
It’s been awhile since the Fabric series captured lightning -in-a-bottle, that rare programmed DJ mix that sounds musically refreshing and yet feels totally spontaneous like a live set. Perhaps it has been as far back as Luciano‘s  installment from last year, who knows? However, San Francisco producer and dirtybird founder Claude VonStroke humbly answers the call from the UK superclub armed with a stack of amazing tracks and a laptop full of Ableton. Personally, I’ve always been on the fence about this guy, not that it has all been his fault but because the farting bass template he created on cuts like “The Whistler” and “Deep Throat” has been ransacked by every joker from here to Bogota calling themselves “EEE-lec-ktro”. These days I can’t help but shudder sometimes when I hear his name. Thanksfully on his new Fabric mix VonStroke stretches out and away from his signature sound and showcases his wide tastes in house music- from the German kling und klong of Robag Whrume to the sheer, but perhaps overused, lushness of Stimming. He also tries to sneak in a few tracks from his own labels-although dirtybird is only mentioned once, on the last track, and it’s by VonStroke himself. Rather the focus here is more on his new techno influenced mothership offshoot- as is the whole disk-with the feeling that here’s a guy getting in touch with his extensive Detroit roots. Sometimes it doesn’t work (the Dinamoe/Clara Moto mash-up and another from Markus Schatz/Catz N Dogz) but overall the results are musically diverse enough for even the finickiest of listeners.  Hardly any of  the sounds or genres are out of place- as you might expect from an internationally recognized DJ- and all played with supremo confidence with just a dollop of humor. Well played, VonStroke.
