LovEvolution 2009, San Francisco – Recap (Part 1) – Simply Amazing!

San Francisco LovEvolution | Resonant Vibes
I’m not even sure where to start in describing the LovEvolution 2009 festival that took place in San Francisco over the weekend. If I had to sum up my thoughts, I would say it was “Simply Amazing”!

The experience of being at this event was so rich that I’m not going to try to condense it into one post; I’m going to share it in two recaps. (Of course, I should also mention that we’ve got exclusive LovEvolution video and photos coming soon to our blog!)

Sam and I got to San Francisco on Friday evening, just in time to grab dinner and head over to the listed Presents Tyrant party (featuring Lee Burridge and Craig Richards). This was a great way to start the weekend. The tunes were killer, and the crowd’s energy was super positive! (We’ll have a photo gallery from this event for you in the next day or so.)

After wrapping up a fairly late night at the Tyrant party, Sam and I headed back to the hotel for what seemed more like a nap than a real night’s sleep. Before I knew it, my alarm was going off, and we were hustling to get downtown to check in for the LovEvolution parade. As we made our way downtown, we started seeing other partygoers. The weather was shaping up nicely, and you could sense that something big was about to happen.

We got our media credentials and then headed to the listed float. More and more people kept showing up to the area where the floats were parked, and you could feel this strong sense of anticipation and excitement: we were all ready to get on the floats and get the party going!

Eventually, we all got on our respective floats, and the parade got started. As the listed float began its procession, we were being blessed with a barrage of pounding, underground beats being played by DJ Dory! (We’ve got video of this.) I can’t say enough good things about Dory’s DJ-ing; she’s controlled and technically sound, but also not afraid to get dirty!

As we made our way through the streets of San Francisco, I felt like I was in heaven. The sun was shining brightly…the air was the perfect temperature…and I was surrounded by high quality dance music and thousands of people who were lost with me in the tunes! It just doesn’t get much better than that!

As the listed float kept making its way through the streets, the crowd became thicker and thicker. The girls were hot, confidently showing off in their revealing party outfits, feeling emboldened by the music. Everywhere you turned, everybody was getting down! All races and ethnicities, all sexual orientations, all ages, both genders – just a massive crowd of people united by a shared love for quality dance music!

At some point in the procession, I looked over at the DJ booth and saw Dory handing the reins to none other than Naveen G! I knew we were in for a treat. Naveen stepped up in a major way, as he always does, delivering his own unique ilk of proggy, techy, dark, make-you-lose-your-mind kinda tunes! I remember a particular epic build up that Naveen worked into his set…when the beat dropped, I watched one guy surrender to it and start following our float, led uncontrollably by the speakers :)

As Naveen kept jamming out, we were getting nearer to our stopping point at the Civic Center. The crowd was getting even wilder; I saw people holding on to street posts and dancing, basically losing their minds as we rode past. At some point before we reached the Civic Center, I hopped off the float so I could mingle with the crowd, which (needless to say) made for a very interesting experience…

To Be Continued in Recap (Part 2)…

A San Francisco LovEvolution Preview: How to Get listed

listed Productions float | 2008 LoveFest | Resonant VibesIt’s that time of year again. The long summer days are officially behind us, and as we make an almost ceremonial descent into the winter months there’s time for one last summer fling. What’s more it’s a free fling full of “Love” and it’s set in the heart of San Francisco. It’s a fling where music, sun, good people and good times can all get it on one last time.
.
That’s right, it’s time for San Francisco’s annual Love “Something” parade. This year it’s called “LovEvolution” and for more information on why it’s name keeps changing you can visit the organizers’ site HERE.
.
Regular readers of this blog will know that rv has a soft-spot for the fine people over at listed Productions. We’ve been involved in several of their past events and they put on ridiculously good parties while understanding what’s involved to make them a success. They know that it takes the right combination of world-class talent, mind-blowing sound systems and quirky themed productions to bring out the exhibitionist in us all. The result is an experience you’ll keep talking about. It’s even a little piece of history in the making if you’re lucky.
.
For this year’s LovEvolution weekend listed are setting the bar high with an insane schedule of 4 parties in 3 days. Each of their parties is unique and worthy of it’s own blog post, but I’ve condensed them all into one. I will say is that if you’re planing to be anywhere remotely close to the Bay Area over the LovEvolution weekend you OWE it to yourself to attend one of their parties. It’s that simple.

Tyrant | Resonant VibesFriday: Tyrant featuring Lee Burridge and Craig Richards
The Scoop: Wow, what a way to start! This is the first time Lee and Craig have played together Stateside as Tyrant in almost 10 years. Tyrant built a reputation as the residents of London’s Fabric nightclub by providing the backbone to the clubs musical direction. Together they understand music in a way that’s truly mind-expanding and they have a constant focus on keeping the vibe going. Combine that with a slew of unforgettable Tyrant tunes and you start to get an idea of what to expect. listed resident Mike Khoury has established himself as Burridge’s opening DJ of choice in North America, so he should provide the perfect start to a very special night of music.
.
Plenty of additional production is being trucked in to transform Club 525 into something a bit special for the night so we think you’d be a fool to miss out on it. What’s more, we’ll be there taking photos and video for the blog, so you should really come along for the bonus of making it into one of our galleries or videos! (more…)

Gallery: The Ocean Stage | Forecastle Festival

Better a little late than never; here are the photos I took at Forecastle. A big thanks to all the DJs and other people that helped at the Ocean Stage over the weekend. The band shown on the main stage is Pretty Lights who also rocked it.

Exclusive Video – RV Forecastle Festivities

If you made it out this past Saturday to the Forecastle Ocean Stage or to the RV Afterparty, then you already know we had an incredible time! Over the course of the day and night, we experienced stellar performances from Ben Alan, Brian Neckel, Deepak Sharma, DJ Three, Dory, Hac Le, Paul Dailey, and our own Sam Gracie.
.
Fortunately, we got some video footage to give you a glimpse of the festivities. We don’t have video for every DJ’s set, but we’ll be posting some audio recordings for you soon on our blog.
.
Enjoy the video…

RV’s Forecastle Festivities – Great Times Guaranteed

Hallucination Party

If you live in Louisville, then you probably already know that the 8th annual Forecastle Festival is going down this weekend (July 10th – 12th) at the Riverfront Belvedere. Each year, thousands of people turn out for this event that aims to fuse music and art with activism. In addition to performances by the likes of Widespread Panic and The Black Crowes, this year we have an RV-endorsed stage dedicated to electronic music on Saturday (the 11th).

The lineup for this Saturday is nothing short of superb! We’ve got our own Sam Gracie opening up with local DJ Ben Alan, followed by sets from Deepak Sharma, Hac Le, Paul Dailey, Dory, Three, and Brian Neckel! Obviously, this is not an event you want to miss if there’s any way you can be there. For more information or to buy tickets, just go to forecastlefest.com.

After we’ve finished listening to great music and dancing all day, we’re going to make our way over to the RV Forecastle Afterparty…which also promises to be super hot! The party will take place from 11pm to 4am at one of my favorite spots in Louisville, called Asiatique. This venue is an elegant, upscale Asian fusion restaurant/lounge. It has a sophisticated, modern decor that really lends itself to a quality electronic music event, and they have a bar that serves outstanding drinks.

We’ve arranged to bring our own sound system in for the event, and we’re asking our Forecastle DJs to get on the decks again. Three is going to headline the afterparty, with help from Dory, Hac Le, Deepak Sharma, Paul Dailey, Ben Alan, and Sam Gracie.

If you’re anywhere near Louisville, I would highly recommend that you make it out to this afterparty! For more details or to RSVP, go to our Facebook events page at http://snipurl.com/mdc56.

I hope to see you out this Saturday!

Great Mix from Dory – Captures Vibe from WMC Party

I found another really impressive mix in the Free RV network. This one comes from Dory, a listed resident. She bangs it out with the throbbing tech house, capturing the vibe of the listed area at our Cecille and Olso Records showcase in Miami. To download the mix for free, GO HERE!
.

Dory hails from just outside Chicago. She was raised by classical music junkies who persuaded he to take up piano at an early age. She got exposure to electronic music at clubs like Medusa’s and Limelight. Later, while attending Northwestern University, Dory landed a DJ slot at WNUR. After working as the station’s Promotions Director and doing her own events, she secured positions at several record labels.

Dory now calls Los Angeles home, but she travels all around rocking dancefloors as yet another gifted member of the listed crew.

I’ve had this mix on repeat for the last few days! It reminds me a lot of the incredible tunes we had at our WMC party.

While you’re checking out Dory’s mix, feel free to poke around our network and find some of the other killer mixes…I guarantee we’ve got some goodies for you! You can rate the mixes and comment on them. We want everybody participating in our community!

Enjoy!
