9. Expanded (Original Mix) – DJ Ceratti and Jaydas [Kansak Recordings] — Steady prog for you…there’s some sort of current of energy pulsing through this tune.

10. Acerbic Sleep (Original Mix) – Nutaike [Absent Music] — I’ll round these recommendations out on a chill note…this is an afterhours, mellowed-out track for winding things down.

1. Forever July (Original Mix) – Mango [Proton Music] <– WOW! This is a great track! Mango absolutely delivers again. This guy has a unique ability to pull on your emotional chords with a unique, silky smooth ilk of progressive house. Rich melody, lush groove, I really like this guy’s style :D

2. Last Station (Original Mix) – Jozef Kugler [FeralCode Records] <– This is a FREE download, and (IMO) it’s one of the best track we uploaded last week. I know I already wrote a post about this release, but I can’t say enough good things about FeralCode Records. Once you preview this track, you’ll be sold.

3. Sound (Original Mix) – Storyteller [Toes in the Sand Recordings] <– Storyteller simply gets the job done with this track. If you’re interested in getting more information about him or this release, check out his interview from last week.

Eddie B’s Upload Highlights (Jan 2 – Jan 8)

It’s been a while since I wrote an upload highlights post, so I figured it was time to share some goodies from this past week’s tracks…

(As usual you can click HERE to conveniently load all of these tracks as a playlist in our media player.)

1. Skin (Ben Coda’s Overcast Remix) – Ned Hobbs [Toes in the Sand Recordings] –> Of course, I have to start my list off by recommending a track from the Toes exclusive pre-release! This track is simply good stuff!

2. Skin (Original Mix) – Ned Hobbs [Toes in the Sand Recordings] –> I’m not sure which of the tracks on the Toes release is my favorite, so I’m putting them both in my list…in no particular order. You can’t go wrong with either one.

3. Mantle (Original Mix) – Greg Clifford [Shiva Records] –> Here’s another tight progressive number that caught my ear…

4. Just Funk Me Already (Original Mix) – Joshua Heath [Salted Digital] –> I have to confess that some labels immediately grab my attention in a way that others don’t. When I see a deep house release on Miguel Migs’ Salted label, my ears prick up. This is good stuff ;)

5. Suitable for Vegetarians (Original Mix) – Greg Clifford [Shiva Records] –> Here’s another track from Greg Clifford on Shiva Records that got my attention. I’ll have to stay on the lookout for releases from this guys. This track has a progressive trancey feel; I’m diggin it.

6. Massification (Original Mix) – Gwith and Sean Godsall [Orbiter Music] –> Minimal anyone? This track has a sort of lull in it, but I really like the overall sound. Kind of subtle, but good stuff.

7. Coming Over to You (Original Mix) – Ronin [Plastic City] –> Here’s an irresistably smooth number for you…with hints of groove and soul.

8. Manimal (Original Mix) – Lsmile [Malatoid Records] –> Here’s a good track…a bit unconventional, but interesting.

9. Mr. Night (Original Mix) – Marco Sarto [Circlemusic] –> When did techno get so progressive? I don’t know, but I like it ;)

10. Sunglasses on the Subway (Midex Remix) – Holosound [Citric Recordings] –> Here’s a fantastic little progressive number! …reminiscent of a Toes or Tilth release; very good stuff in my opinion.

Enjoy!

Money Isn’t Everything

These last few weeks of life have been pretty remarkable for me. RV is doing well, and we’re poised to do some very exciting things in 2009 – like launching our new site (…more on that later). I hadn’t really spent too much time reflecting on our progress or reflecting on life in general because I’ve been so busy…but last night I had a conversation with a friend that made me do a little thinking……and I found myself ruminating on some ideas that seemed worthy of sharing….hence this blog post.

All of our blog readers may not know my history. I’m actually a lawyer and finance guy by training. My work experiences are in fields like investment banking, management consulting, and corporate law — all industries that can be quite financially rewarding. Back in October 2005, I left a comfortable job as a corporate lawyer to work on RV full-time — which was one of the tougher decisions I’ve had to make in life.

I won’t say that I did it all for the love of the music. The truth is I was first and foremost following my passion, but I am also unabashedly focused on reaching certain financial goals I’ve set for myself. I’m not the kind of person who will say money is useless. Money is important…it buys food, shelter, and it can be required for things like sending your kids to good schools or taking your family on a vacation (…not that I have kids or a family yet).

After leaving my corporate law job, I went through some really difficult times financially; we were working like slaves to make our company grow, but we weren’t yet seeing the fruits of our labors. During this period, it became clearer to me than ever, that I do not want to go through life without having enough money to protect myself and my loved ones from all of the stresses that the system imposes on us when we’re broke.

Having acknowledged that money is important, I should now say the main point I want to convey here: Money isn’t everything. I know we’ve all said this and heard this a thousand times, so I’m not telling you anything new here. It’s almost a trite point to make, but I think it’s worthy of making because I have renewed appreciation for it at this stage in my life.

I don’t earn as much money today as I did when I was practicing corporate law, but I wouldn’t – not for one second – trade my professional life today for my professional life as a lawyer. …and don’t get me wrong, I actually enjoyed being a lawyer…but what I do today fulfills me in a way no other job has, and it’s because I followed my passion. I can honestly say I look forward to coming to work everyday. I never dread Monday morning when it’s Sunday night, and I’m never watching the clock to see when it’ll be time to leave the office. It’s almost easy to take these things for granted at this point, but they’re priceless.

So why am I writing this post…well, it certainly not to brag about how cool my job is – though it is pretty cool :) – it’s more to make a point…a point that I think is particularly relevant to the types of folks who are reading our blog. Over the past few years, I’ve spoken to a number of our customers who are trying to balance their passion for electronic music with their everyday need for money…I’ve heard a number of stories from people who dread their day jobs and just want to focus on music. I’m not here to say that if you’re one of these people, you should leave your day job. I know it’s Really Tough to support yourself as an electronic music artist. But, I am here to encourage you to not give up on your passion. I believe that if you work hard enough at following your passion, you’ll find that doors will open that lead to a more fulfilling life. …at least that’s what seems to be happening for me.

Eddie B’s Upload Highlights – RV Top Ten Getting It Done

It’s been a while since I last wrote an upload highlights post, and I figured it was time. I randomly happened to be checking out our current Top 10 Download Chart, and the tunes really caught my ear….so (of course) I figured it was time to share ;)

As usual, you can conveniently load all of the previews for these highlights as a playlist in our media player by clicking HERE. The list below reflects the RV Top 10 Downloads chart as of October 16, and I must say our customers have been downloading some good stuff.

1. Crappy Morning (Original Mix) – Faskil [FeralCode Records] –> FeralCode Records just doesn’t miss! This is a solid progressive release, drifty, melodic, and simply rock solid.

2. Life (Original Mix) – Opencloud [Proton Music] –> Proton plus Opencloud equals dope tuneage….What I find really interesting is that this track comes from our back catalog. I’m not sure why our how it got back on the charts, but it’s definitely a gem.

3. Disco de Janeiro (I Like This Mix) – Space Drums [LATINtronix] –> …nice piece of house with some Latin flair, clearly aimed at the dance floor.

4. April (Original Mix) – DP-6 [DP-6 Records] –> I’m definitely diggin this proggy number. It’s got a cool, mellowed out, contemplative vibe…good stuff.

5. Crappy Morning (FeralCode Mix) – Faskil [FeralCode Records] –> FeralCode adds his own interpretation of Faskil’s tight tune…definitely hot stuff!

6. Digital Space (Silence ‘O’ Phobia Remix) – Matias Chilano [PurpleCat Digital] –> This is a track I probably would not have picked out on my own…but since it’s in our top ten, I opened up and gave it a chance. It’s grown on me…it could have a place in a twisted progressive set.

7. Real Love (Terrence Parker Instrumental Mix) – Sinai [Parker MusicWorks] –> Very Nice! …just good ol’ fashioned house baby, a little soul, a little warmth…overall nice groove ;)

8. Sands of Time (Mastercris Mix) – Nuno Rozz [Next Dimension Music] –> Great track here. We get a lot of releases from Next Dimension Music, and this one stands out above the rest.

9. Kavuki (Unreleased Mix) – Diogo Ribeiro [Progressive Grooves Records] –> I really like the Progressive Grooves Records label…yet another fine piece of craftsmenship from their release vault.

10. Burning for You (Hadi Burpee Remix) – Steve McGrath [Source of Gravity] –> We’ve been carrying Source of Gravity releases for a long time, and this track is another real pleaser. I haven’t heard of Hadi Burpee, but he’s on my radar now.

Enjoy!

Eddie B’s Upload Highlights (May 30 – Jun 5) — Hot New Progressive Tracks

Some of our customers may feel like the Resonant Vibes progressive catalogue fell off a bit in the early part of 2008. …and you know what…this is a blog, and Eddie B will shoot you straight…our progressive catalogue did fall off for a while (…although I should point out that our techno catalogue has grown stronger than ever). HOWEVER, let me be clear in saying that those days of slacking on the progressive catalogue are over. As you can see from the track recommendations below, we’re back baby :D

As usual, you can click HERE to load all of these track recommendations as a playlist in our media player.

1. Just Another Memory (Python Remix) – SATeN [Swordtail Records] <– This release from Swordtail Records is seriously on point. Nice, melodious, gelatinous prog from SATen, who certainly has a reputation for getting the job done.

2. Step Into the Light (Dark Mix) – His Boy Elroy [Proton Music] <– We went a while without having Proton’s tunes on our site, and I’m really glad they’re back. Great track here!

3. Hangdown Sorrow (Original Mix) – Logiztik Sounds [Proton Music] <– See previous comment ;) …this track has a nice driving sound…it definitely takes you where you wanna go.

4. No Identity (Original Mix) – Bs As Deep [Progressive Grooves Records] <– More killer progressive sounds…this time from Progressive Grooves Records…this track fits right in the sweet spot for the progressive crowd.

5. Blue Room (Original Mix) – Chris Drifter [Plastic Fantastic] <– Plastic Fantastic seems to never miss the mark. This is a solid track from Chris Drifter.

6. Fast Life (Christian Fischer Remix) – Christian Fischer [Definition Records] <– This track is old, but it’s a MONSTER ;) …you’ve got the Nancy Sinatra vocals from that song in the Kill Bill soundtrack…I think this would destroy a dance floor if you dropped it at the right time.

7. Twang (Groovy South Remix) – Hugo Cipres and Lucas Vidal [Tapas Recordings] <– This one starts out kinda tame and works its way into a veritable jam.

8. Elite (Original Mix) – Claudia Cazacu [Couture] <– I like the driving feel of this track. It’s got a good feel to it.

9. A Day That Fades (Inpetto Instrumental Edit) – Cosmic Gate feat Roxanne Emery [Black Hole Recordings] <– I’m super pleased to have Black Hole Recordings on our site. They continue to put out solid trance releases.

10. Outside the City (Dave Dk Remix) – Morgan Page [Sugarcane Recordings] <– I don’t know Dave Dk, but this is an impressive remix of Morgan Page’s "Outside the City."

Enjoy!

Eddie B’s Upload Highlights (May 23 – May 29)

All right, I’m keeping you guys current on the goodies…

We had a serious influx of more varied content this week. For the past several months, our uplaods have somewhat dominated by techiness. This past week’s upload was well-rounded…which, of course, is not at all to say we left out the techy gems ;)

As usual, you can load all of these track recommendations as a playlist in our media player by clicking HERE.

1. Ytaca (Manuel de la Mare’s Stealth Mix) – Alex Kenji [Hotfingers] <– Now this is what I’m talking about…it’s been a while since we uploaded a Manuel de la Mare track, and this one gets it done for me.

4. Hardstick (Original Mix) – Remote [Kill the DJ] <– This track has an underlying roll to it that I like…and I’m diggin’ the way the beat comes back in after the breakdown.

5. So Deep Inside (Original Mix) – Pete Gust [Plastic City Play] <– Nothing wrong with a little warm, uplifting soul! This is a solid down-the-middle-of-the-fairway house track.

6. What a Feeling (Original Mix) – FREq [Iboga Records] <– I should’ve labeled this as progressive trance…ooops…I really like this track…beautiful melodic elements and a real punch to it….definitely takes you where you wanna go.

7. Exabequerel (Bjoern Stolpmann Remix) – Digital X [Fassade Digital] <– Wow! …this track is tight as hell…that rising sound in the background really gets good to me.

8. Whip Girl (Original Mix) – DJ Timeline [Live to Tape Recordings] <– This is some groovin’ decadent stuff…soft S&M vocals and an edgy feel that steer the dancefloor in a darker direction.

9. Routed (Original Mix) – Flutance [11 Hz Recordings] <– Good ol’ techno…told ya we didn’t leave it out…this track gets it done for me.

10. Nightly News (Karran and Porter Remix) – Holosound [Citric Recordings] <– I like this groove. I think it make a good track early in a set.

Oh No, Does Eddie B Have a Commercial Side…

Beautiful Things

Ok, I have a small confession to make to our blog readers…

I listen to a lot of electronic music on a daily basis (as you guys know)…and sometimes between the cutting-edge prog, techno, and house mixes, I find myself listening to the sort of tunes that I’m sure a lot of you would call "Commercial." (…oh, the horror!)  …for example, I’ve found myself listening on a few recent occasions to "Beautiful Things" with Andain’s vocals. (If you don’t know the tune, just click the play icon below.)

It’s funny, I find I have two paradoxically opposed parts of my personality – one part being larger than the other. The first part of me (the vast majority of my personality) has an almost unhealthy resistance to commercial music. It damn near upsets me when I think about the way things work…For example, at my gym they play a popular local radio station, and they play the same tracks over and over….and over…and over…I can pretty much guess which song will come on next. It’s as if they’re brainwashing people by repeatedly exposing them to the same tunes and making them become familiar with them and like them. There’s a strong part of my personality that resents the idea of being a sheep. Eddie B doesn’t get down like that…I’ve had this keepin’-it-real, anti-commerical aspect of my personality for a long time, especially in regards to my tunes.

…but there’s another quirky part of my personality…sometimes I’ll like a track like "Beautiful Things" or I’ll hear a decent mix by somebody like Tiesto, and I’ll just think to myself, "that’s good stuff"…despite the fact it might rightfully be labeled "commercial." In fact, I go a step further, and I think to myself, "people should just come off their high horses about all this commercial stuff; if something’s good, it’s just good…this whole commercial phobia stuff is a pretentious, played-out mindset."

I’m not quite sure how to reconcile these two paradoxically opposed parts of my personality….I just figured I’d come clean here on the blog.

…I would tell you guys to chime in with your thoughts, but for some reason it doesn’t seem to work that way on our blog. Sometimes it’s pretty amusing to me…I can see our blog stats so I know you guys are reading, but I hear the crickets chirping after every post :) …one of these days, I’m gonna give free downloads to the first five people who will comment on a post.

…anyway, if you’re reading this, I hope you have a great weekend and go out to hear some killer tunes, be they commercial or uber-underground…I guess it’s all good as long as you’re truly enjoying yourself ;)

Eddie B

PS Seriously, click on the play icon below, and check out this "Beautiful Things" track. It’s good stuff, right?

Eddie B’s Upload Highlights (May 2 – May 22)

All right, it’s been a little while since my last upload highlights post, and we’ve definitely uploaded some goodies! These recommendations span various genres, and they’re all quality tracks.

As usual, you can load all of these tracks as a playlist in our media player by clicking HERE.

1. Space (Radio Slave’s Panorama Garage Remix) – Minilogue [Traum Schallplatten] <– Radio Slave is the man! I wrote a blog post earlier for one of his mixes. This track gets the job done.

2. Liquid Beats (Original Mix) – Soundstorm [Morphosis Records] <– Morphosis Records has emerged as one of our better labels. I’m really happy we have these guys on board, and this Liquid Beats release is rock solid.

3. Hunter (Original Mix) – Martin Buttrich [Cocoon Recordings] <– I know this track from somewhere….maybe I heard Sam drop it or maybe I heard it in a podcast…whatever the case, I’m definitely into it.

4. Poko Chick (Christian Fischer Remix) – Tattoo Detectives [Definitions Records] <– I must confess I’ve never heard of Christian Fischer, and I don’t know many of Definition Records’ releases…but I do know this track is buttertastic ;)

5. Spiderpig (Original Mix) – Klangfrequenz [Beat Monkey Records] <– Ok, first of all, the reference to Homer’s "spiderpig" is funny stuff. (I haven’t seen the Simpson’s movie yet, but my girlfriend told me about that part.) …and of course, I’m also diggin’ the beat.

6. La Forza Del Destino (Radio Slave Remix) – Soylent Green [Playhouse] <– See comment #1 above regarding Radio Slave’s status as the Man. This cat plus Playhouse equals the uber dopeness.  ….seriously, if I didn’t work for Resonant Vibes, I’d buy this track! :)

7. I Can Do It (Bini and Martini Remix) – Tying Tiffany [Ocean Dark] <– I’m not sure why we have this one labeled "minimal"…it doesn’t seem too minimal to me…I guess I slipped up when I approved it…in any case, it’s tight.

8. Ptah (Masque Remix) – Smokin Circles [Segment Records] <– We’ve been stocking content from Segment Records for a long time now…this is just good stuff…a little somethin’ for our prog heads.

9. Genesis (Original Mix) – Photek [Basement] <– Ok…so all of our consistent blog readers should know by now that Eddie B has acquired the taste for intelligent drum and bass….I like this track.

10. Driving to Heaven (Mat Zo Remix) – Tisesto [Nebula] <– This track is great…smooth uplifting trance from a solid artist, Mat Zo…and Eddie B doesn’t care if you wanna call him "commercial" ….I don’t fear the dreaded "C" word…if it’s good stuff, it’s good stuff…and I’m not gonna overlook it just because it’s on a Tiesto album! …c’mon, you know you love it too! :)

Enjoy!

Eddie B’s Upload Highlights (Apr. 18 – May 1)

There were some damn fine tunes in our uploads from April 18 through May 1, so it’s time for me to share the goods with another upload highlights post ;) You may have noticed that we’ve been uploading a good deal of techno these days. 6. I Feel Space (Original Mix) – Linstrom [Playhouse] –> I can’t remember where I heard this track…I think it was on an episode of Digweed’s Kiss 100 show. It’s got a good sound…obviously, Playhouse is no joke.

7. Watertheme (Original Mix) – Concept and Shneck [Invaderz] –> (See comment #4 above.) …hear that "Disco Inferno" vocal riff in this track? …that gets me amped up ;)

8. Northern Spirit (Original Mix) – Kamaya Painters [Black Hole Recordings] –> We’re really glad to have Black Hole on the site. As we move forward, tunes like this are going to be the linchpin of our trance catalog.

9. Zig Zag (Original Mix) – Yellow Sox [Freerange] –> This track has a different sort of feel…kind of mellow, but it has some energy…my kind of stuff.

10. Meo Amor (Schwarz and Funk’s Deep Mix) – Timbalestics [Seamless Recordings] –> For those who like a little Latin-soulful seasoning on their house music, here’s a tasty little number…smooth, classy, groovy…all the way nice.
