Mix from Ben Alan – Outstanding DJ Representing Louisville, KY

As you may know, Resonant Vibes is based in Louisville, Kentucky. I grew up here, moved away for college and law school, and then returned in 2003 to practice corporate law. When I came back to town, I (of course) went on the hunt for good local electronic music – which, incidentally, is how Sam and I became friends. After going out for awhile to various local electronic music events, I eventually crossed paths with another local DJ named Ben Alan (known to a select few as "Bendro").

Ben is the perfect example of a great underground DJ who gets nowhere near the recognition he’s due. This guy’s been keepin’ it real behind the decks for years! …no big checks for gigs, no glamorous magazine photo shots or anything like that…just die hard devotion to the music. Ben’s always known what’s up when it comes to music, and he has a knack for taking you where you want to go – nothing commercial, strictly real deal tunes.

If there’s one DJ skill Ben is lacking, it’s the skill of self-promotion. He’s admitted that to me before…so it’s my pleasure to do a little promotion for him here.

The mix I’ve posted here is a recent promo from Ben, and I’m digging it fo’ sho’ ;) When I first heard Ben playing, he was really into progressive house…but over the past couple years, he’s become a techno/tech house man…so that’s what you’ll get with this mix…mind-bending techno from a DJ representing RV’s hometown, Louisville! …Enjoy!

I should also point out that this is yet another quality mix that’s available for free in the RV Network! I’m absolutely stoked about the killer content that’s coming in!

Great Mix from Dory – Captures Vibe from WMC Party

I found another really impressive mix in the Free RV network. This one comes from Dory, a listed resident. She bangs it out with the throbbing tech house, capturing the vibe of the listed area at our Cecille and Olso Records showcase in Miami. To download the mix for free, GO HERE!
.

Dory hails from just outside Chicago. She was raised by classical music junkies who persuaded he to take up piano at an early age. She got exposure to electronic music at clubs like Medusa’s and Limelight. Later, while attending Northwestern University, Dory landed a DJ slot at WNUR. After working as the station’s Promotions Director and doing her own events, she secured positions at several record labels.

Dory now calls Los Angeles home, but she travels all around rocking dancefloors as yet another gifted member of the listed crew.

I’ve had this mix on repeat for the last few days! It reminds me a lot of the incredible tunes we had at our WMC party.

While you’re checking out Dory’s mix, feel free to poke around our network and find some of the other killer mixes…I guarantee we’ve got some goodies for you! You can rate the mixes and comment on them. We want everybody participating in our community!

Enjoy!

Milton Jackson March Promo Mix

I thought I’d write a quick post to share a mix I grabbed this week. It’s Milton Jackson’s March Promo Mix, and I’m totally diggin’ it!

Jackson is from Glasgow, and he’s been producing tracks since about 2000. He’s built a reputation for delivering lush deep sounds with great production qualities, and I’d describe him as being a true deep house producer. He’s had a string of releases on labels like Freerange, Urbantorque, and Tronicsole, and is currently nominated in the Deep House Artists and Deep House Track categories on another popular download site.

A lot of people in the states seems to equate deep house with the West Coast sound coming out of San Francisco and California. That’s true, but there’s a really strong scene in the UK too with it’s own deep sound. I think it sounds a bit more underground with less diva vocals and bouncy bass lines, and a bit more stripped back and techy than the West Coast sound. This mix is somewhere between deep house and tech house with a brief hint of techno in places. I couldn’t find a track list, but I hope you dig it as much as I have!

March Promo Mix from Sertac Kaya

Here’s a March promo mix from Sertac Kaya; it’s good stuff.

I’ve always enjoyed Sertac’s style, though I’ve known him primarily as a producer. Apparently, he’s also got skills behind the decks!

For those of you who may not be familiar with Sertac, he started his career in 1989 in Ankara, Turkey. He started off DJ-ing and eventually got into producing. He really emerged on the scene when his track "Boncuk" received support from the likes of Tiesto, Sasha, Oakenfold, and PVD.

In the years since I’ve been listening to Sertac, I think his style has evolved. This is a quality underground mix; I think you’ll dig it.

Enjoy!

Sasha Live in Malta

Here’s a nice treat for you…

Sam passed this mix along to me, and now I’m passing it along to you…

This is Sasha playing live at St. Julians in Malta. It’s a two-part mix, and this is part two. Sasha is fully warmed up, and he’s stringing nice tunes together in vintage fashion. This guy is a legend who still has the gift ;)

Free Eardrum Massage from Eelke Kleijn…

I’ve been in the mood for prog this week…and I knew I wanted to post a solid mix on our blog for you, so I went searching…

What I found is a fantastic mix from one of our own DJs, Eelke Kleijn :D

Eelke has been making power moves and blowing up since we added him to our site back in October of 2006. Since that time, he’s had a release on Global Underground, and he’s been playing gigs around the world. More recently, he finished writing music for a Nike Internet campaign. It really pleases me to see Eelke enjoying this success because he’s always been such cool guy when I’ve interacted with him…talent without ego…a splendid combination ;)

So anyway, this mix I found is fresh out of the box. It was released on February 17th as a promo for Eelke’s own label, Outside the Box Music, which has been progressing nicely as well. This mix is solid all the way through. It’s got a mellow undertone, but it also has a unique liveliness. Outstanding track selection and sequencing…I would definitely highly recommend jamming out to this one over the weekend!

Also, I have to give a real shot out to friskyRadio here because I got this mix from the frisky subscription downloads. It only costs $10 per month to subscribe, and you get access to a wealth of quality progressive mixes! …and the proceeds help frisky foot the bill for bringing us all free quality tunes everyday.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy Eelke’s mix as much as I’ve been enjoying it!

Exclusive FREE EP from FeralCode Records

Here’s an offer no progressive fan can refuse…

FeralCode Records has served up an oustanding FREE Exclusive EP for the RV community! :D

The EP comes from Jozef Kugler, and it’s called Metro Station. It features three tracks: "Last Station," "Sun in the Station," and "Round Trip."

"Last Station" is the track that really sets the tone for the EP in my opinion. The track gets off to an easy start and settles into a nice groove. It’s got a great melody and an irresistable chill vibe…definitely one of the better progressive tracks we’ve gotten of late. It’s hard to really put my finger on what makes this track special; I think it ultimately just comes down to the way it makes a person feel when you really listen to it ;)

The other two tracks are winners as well. "Sun in the Station" has a different flavor…It keeps things interesting with a quasi-syncopated beat, breakdowns and buildups, and unique background elements. "Round Trip" is yet another track showing Jozef’s versatility. It’s got a downtempo feel in ways, but almost has a funky feel as well…call it progressive house with a little something extra ;)

These tracks are free, so by all means download and enjoy!

Phenomenal Track from Leftfield

Last week, my man Bigalo took it upon himself to start educating the RV team :) …he put his foot down and said we needed to order some of the seminal electronic music CDs….and one of the ones he started with was Leftism by Leftfield.

I must confess I hadn’t ever heard this CD before…now that I’ve made it through, I can definitely see why it’s classic stuff.

I couldn’t resist posting one track here that’s called "Melt." It’s phenomenal; check it out!

Enjoy!

Exclusive Pre-Release from Toes in the Sand Recordings!

Toes in the Sand Recordings

We just added another Super-Duper-Tight Exclusive Pre-Release from Toes in the Sand Recordings!

Here’s what they had to say about it:

"Ned Hobbs gave the progressive-house world a small taste of his talents in 2008 and shows no signs of stopping. He kicks off the new year with the sultry, sexy "Skin," featuring dulcet expressions of love by vocalist Amy Arora. On the remix is Overcast’s Ben Coda — also poised for a big year — who comes through with a melodic, clubbier take on the original."

I’m really digging these two tracks. Ned’s original mix is austere, no wasted sounds. The vocals are subtle and add to the overall flow of the track. There are some rising sounds and jets that move you along as it progresses on a nice journey…melodic, slightly groovy, simply good stuff ;) Ben Coda’s remix is definitely on point too…a bit more upbeat. Ben also added a scratchy feel to the track that I think really works.

All in, I’ll definitely vouch for this release!

Enjoy!
