rv_cast 012 Mixed by Jim Masters

Jim Masters | Resonant Vibes Electronic Music PodcastThe twelfth installment of the rv podcast comes courtesy of UK techno don Jim Masters. He recorded the mix to celebrate Hi-Tek-Soul’s 3rd birthday and has been nice enough offer it to us for the rv_cast.
.
Jim’s been immersed in the UK dance scene since the mid 80’s. As a DJ and promoter he’s been responsible for some of the most popular nights in the UK – probably most notably for his BASE parties. BASE was one of the strongest and longest running techno nights in the UK which he ran with Carl Cox for 7 years.
.
Over the years he’s played to hundreds of thousands of people at some of the biggest venues and events in dance music including Cream, Ministry of Sound, The End, Homelands, Glastonbury, Exit, Glade, Sonar and DEMF. In 2003 he picked up the DJ Award for Best Techno/Electro DJ to a packed house in Pacha, Ibiza. Simply put Jim’s played at a lot of great clubs in a lot of countries and has the air miles to prove it.
.
In 2007 Jim teamed up with Detroit legend Derrick May to kick off their Hi-Tek-Soul parties in the UK. You can hear him holding his own alongside other notable Hi-Tek-Soulers like Carl Craig, Stacy Pullen and Lee Mortimer at one of their nights at the Ministry of Sound, or by checking out his podcast below. We hope you enjoy it.

rv_cast 008 A Blipswitch Exclusive Mixed by J.Rogers

The Resonant Vibes Podcast | J.Rogers | Blipswitch DigitalFor this rv_cast we bring you the first installment of “Blipswitch 2009 Mixed” a full-length mix compilation compiled and mixed by Blipswitch Digital label boss J.Rogers.
.
Blipswitch Digital is a record label based in San Francisco, and J.Rogers describes it as having “a core sound focused in dubstep, minimal/techno, tech house, and all the bubbling areas in between.” Their first release was in July 2008, at a time when the minimal sound had saturated the European electronic music scene, but was still popular in the US. Dubstep was on the verge of explosion in the US around then too, and the label aims to fuse the best elements of both sounds. With artists on their roster like Alland Byallo, Chris Fortier, Eskmo, Dave Aju, Antiserum and Coalition of the Killing, and support from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Richie Hawtin, Headhunter, [a]pendics.shuffle, 2562, Xpansul, and John Tejada, it’s clear to see that the label is on an upwards trajectory.
.
I’m usually a little reluctant to delve into full length commercial compilations as there’s no shortage of great mixes you can find for free online. However, this one is a little different as it’s being released in conjunction with the unmixed tracks—which will be available exclusively in the rv shop a week before everywhere else—and it’s also being podcast two weeks prior to it’s release. I’m not sure what it makes this mix then… part promotional tool and part commercial compilation perhaps? Either way, it’s definitely worth a listen! (more…)
