LovEvolution 2009, San Francisco – Recap (Part 2) – Wrap-up

LovEvolution 2009, San Francisco | Resonant Vibes
This is the last post I’ll be writing about RV’s experience at LovEvolution 2009 in San Francisco. I want to wrap up the saga I began in my previous LovEvolution Recap post.

When I left the story off last time, the processional part of the parade was winding down, and I had gotten off the listed float to mingle with the crowd…

As I started talking to partygoers in the streets, I began to realize that San Francisco is a really special place. It hit me that I was feeling the same positive, open-minded energy that’s been associated with San Francisco since the heyday of Haight-Ashbury and the hippie movement. San Francisco was at the heart of that movement, and the spirit is still alive there today.

Eventually, I made my way to the Civic Center, where all the floats were parked. I proceeded to grab a cold beer (of course) and then passed by various floats. I pretty quickly ended up back at the listed float, which had a top-notch position at the head of the party, right in front of the VIP section. The sun was still shining brightly; the sound system was incredibly dope; and the crowd was on fire. Hoj was on the decks, and he was absolutely killing it!

After a few hours, I needed to make my way back to our hotel to get some more flyers. This was a really interesting trip. I passed a guy playing intricate rhythms on drums he’d made from buckets. I also passed a crew of break dancers who were doing some crazy moves I hadn’t ever seen before. Going to and from the hotel, I just continued to soak up the cool San Francisco vibe.

By the time I got back to the festival, it was peak hour! …so right back to the listed float I went…to catch sets by Bill Patrick, Lee Burridge, and Danny Howells! Words simply won’t do justice to the experience, so I’ve posted a short clip below to give you a taste for what it was like in the listed area…

At some point, I remember thinking, “I wish this festival and this sunshine would last for hours and hours more,” but alas, as with all good things, it had to come to an end. As darkness fell, the temperature (more…)

LovEvolution 2009 in San Francisco – We’ve Got You Covered!

LovEvolution

LovEvolution 2009 is going down in San Francisco this weekend, and (once again) Resonant Vibes is going to be on the frontline bringing you full exclusive coverage of the festivities!

Obviously, we’re super excited about attending LovEvolution 2009. The roster of artists performing at the event includes Deadmau5, Groove Armada, Eddie Halliwell, DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Andy Moor, Sharam, ATB, Green Velvet, Lee Coombs, Lee Burridge, Mark Farina, Danny Howells, Doc Martin, and more!

If you’ve been following RV for long enough, then you may recall that we actually attended the San Francisco LoveFest in 2006. Now, the organizers of the San Francisco Love Parade and San Francisco LoveFest have changed the name of the festival to LovEvolution. (The idea was to distinguish the event from another “Love Festival” event in Los Angeles.) In any case, it’s still the same great shindig, based on the incredibly positive energy and spirit of the original Love Parade in Berlin. Last year, 100,000 people showed up to enjoy the irresistible beats that were oozing out of the floats as they paraded through the streets of downtown San Francisco.

So what are we going to be doing at the festival? (…besides indulging our insatiable addictions to dance music!) Our game plan will be to get exclusive video, photos, and editorial content for our blog so that you can experience LovEvolution 2009 with us! We’re eager to capture the heart and soul of this event for the RV community.

In terms of our agenda – and this will come as no surprise – we plan to be hanging with our favorite underground party crew, listed Productions! As always, these guys have cooked up some super-exciting LovEvolution events. First off, on Friday, we’re going to be at listed’s party featuring Tyrant (Lee Burridge and Craig Richards)! This is Tyrant’s first appearance in America in 10 years, and my expectations for this are absurdly high! Next, on Saturday, we’re going to be hitching a ride on the “listed Gets Twisted” float. We’ll be riding through the streets of San Francisco listening to the tunes of Lee Burridge, Danny Howells, Craig Richards, Bill Patrick, Hac Le, Mike Khoury, Nikita, Dory, Hoj, and Naveen G. THAT’S GONNA BE BANANAS!

We’ll have coverage of everything for you.

Just stay tuned to the RV blog for more LovEvolution goodies and updates.

PS If you’re interested, we’ve added mixes to our network by nearly all of the DJs who are performing at LovEvolution, so you can download them for free!

A San Francisco LovEvolution Preview: How to Get listed

listed Productions float | 2008 LoveFest | Resonant VibesIt’s that time of year again. The long summer days are officially behind us, and as we make an almost ceremonial descent into the winter months there’s time for one last summer fling. What’s more it’s a free fling full of “Love” and it’s set in the heart of San Francisco. It’s a fling where music, sun, good people and good times can all get it on one last time.
.
That’s right, it’s time for San Francisco’s annual Love “Something” parade. This year it’s called “LovEvolution” and for more information on why it’s name keeps changing you can visit the organizers’ site HERE.
.
Regular readers of this blog will know that rv has a soft-spot for the fine people over at listed Productions. We’ve been involved in several of their past events and they put on ridiculously good parties while understanding what’s involved to make them a success. They know that it takes the right combination of world-class talent, mind-blowing sound systems and quirky themed productions to bring out the exhibitionist in us all. The result is an experience you’ll keep talking about. It’s even a little piece of history in the making if you’re lucky.
.
For this year’s LovEvolution weekend listed are setting the bar high with an insane schedule of 4 parties in 3 days. Each of their parties is unique and worthy of it’s own blog post, but I’ve condensed them all into one. I will say is that if you’re planing to be anywhere remotely close to the Bay Area over the LovEvolution weekend you OWE it to yourself to attend one of their parties. It’s that simple.

Tyrant | Resonant VibesFriday: Tyrant featuring Lee Burridge and Craig Richards
The Scoop: Wow, what a way to start! This is the first time Lee and Craig have played together Stateside as Tyrant in almost 10 years. Tyrant built a reputation as the residents of London’s Fabric nightclub by providing the backbone to the clubs musical direction. Together they understand music in a way that’s truly mind-expanding and they have a constant focus on keeping the vibe going. Combine that with a slew of unforgettable Tyrant tunes and you start to get an idea of what to expect. listed resident Mike Khoury has established himself as Burridge’s opening DJ of choice in North America, so he should provide the perfect start to a very special night of music.
.
Plenty of additional production is being trucked in to transform Club 525 into something a bit special for the night so we think you’d be a fool to miss out on it. What’s more, we’ll be there taking photos and video for the blog, so you should really come along for the bonus of making it into one of our galleries or videos! (more…)

Hoj’s Live Set from Varsity All-Stars 2009 Party

We’ve got some serious ear candy for you…just in time for the weekend…

This is the first live set we’re posting from listed Productions’ Varsity All-Stars 2009 Party…(click the play icon below to enjoy!)

This mix comes from Hoj, and it’s rock solid! It was a daytime set, and he keeps a constant groove going. If you listen closely to the recording, you can hear people in the background – mingling and enjoying a perfect summer day in Chicago.

Hoj is the newest addition to the listed roster, and I must say I was quite impressed with his skills behind the decks.

For those who aren’t too familiar with Hoj, his roots are in the San Francisco dance music scene, but he’s now living in New York City. He’s gained recognition by playing events across the US and abroad for Spundae, Opel, listed, and others. He’s also opened for the likes of Digweed, Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo, Armin Van Buuren, and Paul Van Dyk.

Hoj is known for not restricting his music to any single genre. He says he likes it “chunky, percussive, rude, and funky.” In his sets, he tends to weave his way seamlessly through an eclectic blend of house, minimal, and techno.

RV definitely wants to thank Hoj for making it out to Chicago and for dropping such a dope set at the Varsity All-Stars Party!

It was a beautiful day as we arrived in Chicago, and the scene was set. Eddie and I were about to embark on a 12-hour marathon consisting of some chunky day time beats delivered smoothly by the listed residents and Ms. Anja Schneider. Other team players included a fine selection of strong drinks, a BBQ pit and a crowd of up-for-it party-goers all dressed in sports gear. Well, it’s was the Varsity Allstars party!

What’s more you should keep an eye on the blog over the next few days as we post more great content from the event, including the video. A big thanks goes to the listed crew for yet again handling business and see you in ’10!
