Movement 2010 Update – Villalobos and 31 Others Added to Lineup

Movement 2010

The Movement 2010 Electronic Music Festival in Detroit just got better! Yesterday, Paxahau announced that Ricardo Villalobos will be performing at the event, along with 31 other newly added acts like Booka Shade, Derrick May, Marco Carola, and Ghostland Observatory. Paxahau also announced the addition of a fifth stage, sponsored by Movement Torino.

Renowned minimal techno DJ/producer, Villalobos last performed in Detroit in 2002 when he played at the Paxahau Electronic Music Festival (PEMF), a four-day party that was held at the now closed Panacea Nighclub.

“Ricardo is looking forward to coming back to Detroit again after all these years,” said his agent Goetz Guse of Cocoon Agency out of Frankfurt, Germany. “His return to the United States and Detroit for the Movement Electronic Music Festival is exclusive to Paxahau. He isn’t booked to perform at any other venue in the States, and we don’t anticipate he will be this year.”

In addition to Villalobos, the contemporary dance music duo Booka Shade from Berlin has been scheduled for a live performance, along with electro, rock, and funk duo Ghostland Observatory who will also perform live.

“We are feeling very good about how this year’s Movement lineup has come together,” said Jason Huvaere, Executive Director of Movement Electronic Music Festival. “With today’s announcement of Ricardo and the other 31 artists, the response we are getting is extremely positive.”

Movement 2010 Line-Up Announced

Movement 2010 | Resonant Vibes Electronic Music Blog
Since 2000 electronic music fans from across the globe have made the pilgrimage every May to Detroit, the city where Techno music was born. 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of the Movement Festival (formerly DEMF) in Detroit.

In 2009 the Movement Electronic Music Festival recorded its best attendance figures to date since becoming a ticketed event in 2005.  Some 83,322 people filled the outdoor venue last year.  An international partnership was also forged with promoters from Torino Italy to create Movement Torino.

The rumors continue to be confirmed that the bearded techno-über guru Hawtin will be hot on the festival circuit this year, headlining live as Plastikman. Other headliners included  Model 500 and Inner City with a total of 70 acts announced today covering a spectrum of sounds from techno through to livetronica. My line-up highlights are: Agoria, Cassy, Chris Liebling, Derrick Carter, DJ Godfather, DJ Sneak, Ida Engberg, Italoboyz, Jamie Jones, Joel mull, John Acquaviva, Josh Wink, Luke Hess, Martin Buttrich, Martyn, Michael Meyer, Mt Scruff, Oner Ozer, Redio Slave, Robert Hood, Ryan Crosson, Simian Mobile Disco and Theo Parish. You can check the full list in the graphic below, as I couldn’t find a decent HTML list to copy and paste.

Ford are the presenting sponsor this year which adds testimony to how much the commercial reach of the festival has grown. The result might be a line-up that seems too mainstream for some of the techno puritans—who’s heads will be rammed in a sub in Made in Detroit area anyway—but one that should keep the rest of us revelers happy.

$40 early bird tickets are now on sale and all the details are to be found at  http://www.paxahau.com/movement/

Carl Craig to be Creative Director for Movement 2010

carl_craig1Techno legend Carl Craig has been named Creative Director for Movement 2010. Paxahau announced the news today as ahead of the start of Movement 2009 which gets going tomorrow—May 23—at noon.
.
“Movement is already a great festival and a successful brand,” said Craig, “it is an honor to be involved with Movement in this new capacity. I look forward to working with the team from Paxahau to take the artistic vision for the festival to a new level.”
.
In his new role Craig will be involved in various creative aspects of Movement including artist bookings and the festival’s brand image. He will also serve as an ambassador for the Movement festival as he travels the globe performing for throngs of electronic music enthusiasts.
.
“Detroit is such a wonderful music town,” Craig continued. “With Movement we have such a great opportunity to remind people from around the world and those that are right here in our own backyard that electronic music in Detroit is very powerful and that our annual festival is the best stage for showcasing the most talented artists of this musical genre.”
.
The annual Memorial Day Weekend festival has gone through several reincarnations since its beginning in 2000. Paxahau earned the right in 2006 to produce the festival. Since then they have been credited with bringing financial stability to the once fledgling festival and developing a festival atmosphere that appeals to fans because of the high standard of production quality they demand and their ability to book major local and international artists year after year.
.
Paxahau representatives were elated when Craig agreed to become creative director and believe his involvement will strengthen the future of the Movement festival in Detroit.
.
“We were extremely excited when Carl agreed to come on board as our new creative director,” said Jason Huvaere, president of Paxahau. “He has a complete understanding of the history of Techno music in Detroit. He understands its impact around the world because he lives it every day.”
.
“Carl is a musical visionary whose ambassadorship is unparalleled. He will be able to capture the desires electronic music fans have for Movement and help us to incorporate them into future festivals.”

hot_natured_flyerAfter a hugely successful Miami party to close out the week, Hot Natured returns with plenty of tricks up their collective sleeves and some surprise special guests too.
.
Hot Natured will be closing out the Movement weekend in style on the rooftop patio of Exodus Lounge with Jamie Jones leading the charge. He’ll be offered the trusted support of Lee Curtis and Lee Foss as the three of them dig deep to deliver all the all the 80′s funk jams, disco, and classics you can handle.
.
Downstairs sees a Culprit and Autobrennt label/agency night, with a little help from Paxahau to take you places only appropriate for Monday-night-into-Tuesday-morning crowd. Ryan Crosson from Wagon Repair will be stopping in to play alongside Droog, John Johr, Andrew Kelly and Clovis to round out this very long festival weekend.
