Monochronic – A Solid DJ in the RV Network

Monochronic

The RV Network has given me endless enjoyment since we launched it last year. One of my favorite job perks is randomly discovering good music on our site from DJs who are flying under the industry’s radar.

Back in March, a new mix in the RV Network caught my attention. It was uploaded by a DJ named Monochronic. The mix is titled, “Wide-eyed 001,” and I’ve really been enjoying it! As of now, it’s been downloaded 161 times and streamed 43 times, which means most folks haven’t even checked it out yet…just a nice little progressive gem resting in the RV Network treasure trove. I wanted to write this quick blog post to give Monochronic some props and to thank him for his contributions to our community.

I did a little research on Monochronic. His real name is Stoyan Dafov, and he was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He started listening to electronic music during the 90s, and his influences were artists like Jay Dee, Faithless, Funky Green Dogs and Sven Vath. In the early part of this decade, Monochronic developed a strong interest in tribal and tech house, especially in the artists Dimas, Simon & Shaker, Eddie Richards, and Mastiksoul. Since 2005, his primary genres of interest have been deep and progressive house music.

While I just discovered Monochronic in the RV Network, he’s actually gotten some visibility on dance music radio stations like friskyradio.com, PureFM, Tribal Mixes Radio, and Eilo.org. Monochronic is playing gigs in various clubs in his hometown, and he’s holding a residency on PureFM with his own radio show, “Stereotype.”

Monochronic’s profile page in the RV Network is loaded with good music, and I’d suggest checking out some of his mixes. If you want to hear the “Wide-eyed 001” mix that caught my attention, just go here. For those interested, I’ve provided the tracklist for the mix below.

02 Lank – Twinge (Quivver Remix)

Tom Beltor – Rising of the Sun – RV Mix Contest 003 Winner!

Tom Beltor - Rising of the SunI’ve been looking forward to writing this post for a while now! It’s time for me to give some serious props to Tom Beltor, the winner of RV Mix Contest 003! First a little background…
.
A couple weeks ago, I was working really late, well into the morning hours, alone at the office, thoroughly caffeinated, with my speakers turned way up…I was looking for a new mix to play, so I fired up Tom’s Rising of the Sun…I was so impressed that I sent personal emails to several of my friends to brag about it! I was proud that the RV network has become a forum that gives deserving underground artists an opportunity to shine and be discovered by new, welcoming ears.
.
Tom’s mix starts out in smooth progressive fashion…gently undulating and swelling, getting your ears primed. Over the course of about an hour, he weaves his way through a seductive sequence of tracks. I really dig the diversity of the poignant moments in Rising of the Sun. For example, around the 5:20 mark, you hear this blissful, mellifluous motif. Then, Tom settles things back into a steady, ear-tingling groove. Around the 21:00 mark, he changes gears a bit by dropping a twisted, slow-moving, grimey track…it has this subtle, gritty sound that gets right in your head. The set stays solid from start to finish – well-conceived, well-sequenced, and superbly mixed.
.
Of course, I’m not the only one who really digs Tom’s Rising of the Sun mix. It’s been downloaded over 2,400 times in less than two weeks! Tom has shown that the RV network can be a great place for getting visibility if you’ve got killer tunes to share.
.

Tom BeltorI’ve talked about Tom’s Rising of the Sun mix, but I also want to share some info about him personally. He was born in 1979 in Berlin and drawn to music at an early age. His influences were DJs like Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren, and Fergie. At age 25, Tom bought his first DJ set and started his foray into the world of trance. Over time, his interests evolved from trance to progressive trance and then to progressive house. In November 2006, Tom gained the honor of hosting a two-hour monthly show on friskyradio, which is still being heard and enjoyed today.
.
Tom says he tries to really give something to people when he DJs – that he wants to share a part of himself and his feelings by playing music that has depth.
.
All I have to say is keep doing your thing Tom! Sharing yourself through electronic music is an ambition that deeply resonates with us here at RV! ‘Nuff props!

rv_cast 005 Mixed by Naveen G.

rvcast005_pic_blogWhat I can say about Naveen G? Well, apart from being a decent bloke, he’s a great DJ and accomplished producer.
.
His first big break as a producer was with “Afterthought/Looking Glass” which he produced under his Samsara moniker. It saw a release on Yoshitoshi Records and was subsequently licensed for use on Satoshi Tomiie’s Nubreed compilation. (Nubreed is one of the mix compilations put out by Global Underground, for anyone who might not know.) From then on he’s seen his tracks released on various other high profile labels like M-Theory, Proton Music, and Toes in the Sand Recordings.
.
As a DJ he knows how to warm-up a crowd in the right manner. He know that it’s about taking your time and building the vibe in a slow and well thought out way. By the time he hands over the decks to [insert headlining DJ], the crowd are always pumped and ready for more. With all that said, I’ve also heard him headline gigs in his own right. He always has an immaculate selection of tracks to hand, and knows exactly which one to drop next to ensure that the night goes off in a big way.
.
As a long time resident of Proton Radio—with possibly with the longest running show on the station—it’s clear to see that he’s a time proven veteran behind the decks. In addition to his Proton activities he’s also a member of the listed Bookings roster, and a takes his place frequently in listed Production line-ups for their events around the country.
.
Naveen G’s rv_cast starts off meaning business. A smooth but grooving vibe that quickly moves into what becomes a full-on techno work out. That’s not the end of it as the mix seamlessly moves into what some people would call progressive, but it’s not really progressive how I remember progressive. It’s not really traditional techno either, but it is dark and moody and full of energy.
.
In this mix, you can sort of tell that Naveen G’s roots originally hark back to progressive, however with his selection of slamming tracks and silky smooth transitions this is Naveen G’s unique brand of techno.
.
So, with all that said have a listen for yourself, and I hope you enjoy Naveen G’s rv_cast!

Morgan May – First Winner of the RV Network DJ Competition

Morgan May Electronic Music DJ
We’ve already announced Morgan May as the first winner of the RV network DJ competition, and now it’s time to give him a duly earned in-depth profile here on our blog.
.
As I write this post, Morgan’s winning mix – @ Twisted Modelf*cker 06 April 2009 – has received 78 thumbs up ratings! It’s still the highest rated mix in our network, and we have nearly 300 mixes posted. His mix has gotten more positive feedback than other mixes that were submitted by well-known DJs. My hat is definitely off to him!
.
Over the past couple weeks, our team has had the opportunity to exchange emails with Morgan. We asked him some general questions, and I’ve been listening to his music to get a better feel for him as a person and an artist.
.
Morgan was born in the U.S.S.R. (He told us that the country’s dissolution reminds him that nothing lasts forever.) He lives in The Netherlands now, but he’s also lived in Austria, Russia, and the United States at other points in his life.
.
Morgan has been an electronic music fan for over 15 years. He started DJ-ing after visiting a friend in Florida who had a local following of people. This friend had a cool spot that he could turn into a club, and his performance made a positive impression on Morgan. In 2000, Morgan decided to embark on his own (more…)

Exclusive FREE EP from FeralCode Records

Here’s an offer no progressive fan can refuse…

FeralCode Records has served up an oustanding FREE Exclusive EP for the RV community! :D

The EP comes from Jozef Kugler, and it’s called Metro Station. It features three tracks: "Last Station," "Sun in the Station," and "Round Trip."

"Last Station" is the track that really sets the tone for the EP in my opinion. The track gets off to an easy start and settles into a nice groove. It’s got a great melody and an irresistable chill vibe…definitely one of the better progressive tracks we’ve gotten of late. It’s hard to really put my finger on what makes this track special; I think it ultimately just comes down to the way it makes a person feel when you really listen to it ;)

The other two tracks are winners as well. "Sun in the Station" has a different flavor…It keeps things interesting with a quasi-syncopated beat, breakdowns and buildups, and unique background elements. "Round Trip" is yet another track showing Jozef’s versatility. It’s got a downtempo feel in ways, but almost has a funky feel as well…call it progressive house with a little something extra ;)

These tracks are free, so by all means download and enjoy!

Three Nice Progressive House Tracks

I planned to write a few more blog posts this week, so I’m going to go through our store and try to pull out some goodies for you ;)

I’ll organize my posts according to genre. To start things off, I went through our progressive house section to find three new releases that spoke to me. Here’s what I found…

(…as usual, you can conveniently load all of these prviews in our media player by clicking HERE.)

Phaleon

The first track I picked out is called "Phaleon" by Dario Maffia. It was released on NuZone Gears. I’m not really familiar with the artist or label, but that won’t stop me from recognizing a good track when I hear it ;) This one has a gentle melody that has an emotive effect…which is I’m sure what Dario intended. Definitely good stuff!

The next track I picked out is called "Alone with You," and it’s by Deadmau5. Cleary, Deadmau5 is an artist who has absolutely blown up in the past year or so. I must confess, however, that I’ve never really been on his bandwagon, but this is a good piece of work. …I may need to explore some of his other off-the-beaten-path productions…

Here’s another solid track in our progressive section. It’s called "Rusty," and it’s by Murat Uncuoglu. I’ve not heard of Murat, but I am certainly familiar with Vapour Recordings. …everytime I see one of their releases, I pay attention. This track is cool; it has a different sound to it.

Enjoy!
