Tony Lionni RA Podcast

Tony Lionni RA 157It’s Saturday so I figured it would be cool to share another nice mix with you.
.
This one comes from Tony Lionni, and it’s the 157th episode of the Resident Advisor podcast. RA just keeps getting the job done, week after week.
.
I checked in on the RA forums, and it seems there are some mixed feelings about this episode, but I’ve been digging it for the past few weeks. It’s original, and it takes some interesting artistic twists.
.
If you’re not familiar with Tony Lionni, he’s a house and techno producer. He was born in Liverpool, and he’s living in Berlin now (of course). His roots are actually in hip hop and funk, but he’s been producing electronic music like a man possessed for the past year or so. He’s already had releases on labels like Versatile, Aesthetic Audio, Wave, Mule, and Figure.
.
For those interested, I’ve posted a tracklist for this mix below.
.
1. “Mystery of Nazerus” – Marco Bernardi
2. “Sleeper” – Jimpster
3. “Where Are You Now” – Andre Lodemann
4. “The Brain” – Tony Lionni
5. “Letting Go” – The Chain
6. “The Chain” – Geo
7. “Hot Knives” – Slam
8. “Rizer” – Kalva and Paul Thomas
9. “BX3″ – Len Faki
10. “Astroblack” – Tony Lionni

Murmur’s RA Podcast – Where Did These Guys Come From?!

Murmur

Resident Advisor has done it again…they’ve cranked out yet another rock solid, fresh podcast. This time it comes from two guys David Togher and Graeme White who together call themselves Murmur. If there’s one thing I continue to respect about Resident Advisor, it’s the fact that keep finding airtight mixes from artists I’ve never heard of ;) …has Eddie B just been living under a rock? …where did these cats come from?

I’m really digging this mix (…of course, or I wouldn’t be writing this post, right?). These guys have a fresh sound. The jury seems to be calling this mix "dub techno." I’ll be honest; the dub elements are pretty manifest throughout, but the techno seems to come and go…in fact, there are a few points where you just feel like you’re listening to downtempo.

Before I tell you to click the play icon below and enjoy, I’ll mention the caveat that this mix isn’t for everybody (but then again, what mix is?…) If you’re looking for something upbeat, this isn’t gonna be your thing…but if you want some good, mellowed-out, intelligent tunes, this mix has you covered.

Enjoy!

Falko Brocksieper – RA Podcast 101

Falko Brocksieper RA PodcastAll right my valued blog readers, here’s another decent mix for you to bump over the weekend ;)

Falko Brocksieper steps up and gets it done for Resident Advisor’s 101st podcast. …incidentally, the RA team really has a good thing going with these podcasts…consistently clean recordings, quality artists, good stuff all the way around ;)

I actually hadn’t heard of Falko before checking out this podcast on a whim. It’s kinda funny because the 100th RA podcast was by none other than Richie Hawtin…so it seems they do a good job of tapping into the well-knowns and drilling into the underground.

Anyway, I think this mix does a good job of maintaining a cool, techy vibe from start to finish…it fits in the same bucket as the Patrice Baumel mix I posted a while back…good stuff, that keeps the head noddin’ ;)

To check this one out, just click the play icon as usual.

Also, if you’re interested in reading about Falko, here’s a little blurb I found on the RA website…

"Falko Brocksieper might have moved away from Cologne in 2004, but you can still hear the lush techno sound of his home city in his productions. A producer since 1999, Brocksieper has released on a variety of labels including Sub Static, Resopal, Treibstoff and Dumb Unit and Tuning Spork. This month, though, sees the release of his first full-length in five years on Sub Static, Heavy Day, which promises to showcase both where Brocksieper’s been and where he’s going. Mixed in with his usual analog-based minimal funk is a number of vocal tracks, featuring the talents of Richard Davis, Big Bully and M.I.A.

As a DJ, his style has been described as "intelligent and optimistic", and he places special emphasis on mixing up older tracks with more recent records. In keeping with the theme, his RA podcast is sprinkled with new productions by the likes of Cassy, Johnny D and Agnès, and closes out with a classic track by Baby Ford. You can also hear a few of the tracks from Heavy Day on the podcast (although none of the vocal cuts). Enjoy."

…and for our blog readers who love to see tracklists, here’s the one for this mix…

01. Coalition Of The Killing – Azizam – Karloff
02 The Cheapers – Caves – Upon You
03 Agnès – Dancing Bells – Minibar
04 Falko Brocksieper – Private – Sub Static
05 Jahcoozi – Shake The Doom (Cassy Remix) – Careless
06 Dan Curtin – Pull Up – Leena
07 Tampopo – Helicopters Got Cameras (Tobias. Remix) – Métisse
08 Falko Brocksieper – Zychological – Sub Static
09 Dan Curtin – Glance – Leena
10 Johnny D – Tramodysee – Oslo
11 Bart Skils & Anton Pieete aka District One – One 2 One – 100% Pure
12 Mark August – Warm (Zander VT Detune Mix) – Métisse
13 Baby Ford and the iFach Collective – Bad Friday – Klang

Enjoy!

Brendon Moeller – RA Podcast 079

Brendon Moeller - RA PodcastAll right, here’s a little treat…Brendon’s Moeller’s Resident Advisor podcast. Sam introduced this mix to me on a recent road trip we took. I’m definitely feelin’ it.

For a while, I was listening to most of the RA podcasts, but then I started slacking off a bit. This one has definitely rekindled my interest.

For those interested, I’ve copied the excerpt about Brendon below:

"Brendon Moeller grew up in Johannesburg, where he played in bands, wrote for music magazines and even taught school before upping sticks and heading to New York to pursue music in 1993. Rumour has it he didn’t know a thing about electronic music before he hit America, but you wouldn’t know that from his productions. Moeller has spent the last ten years building up a quietly impressive catalogue of releases, including albums as Beat Pharmacy on Francois K’s Deep Space Media imprint and releases as Echologist for Mule Musiq. More recently he’s put out rated dub techno 12”s under his own name for Echocord and Third Ear – this year his ’Jazz Space EP’ was especially rated for its unusually high quality. Different names, different labels, but all of Moeller’s releases are wide-open affairs, synthesizing dub, minimal techno, jazz and African influences into deep, organic dance music with a careful attention to detail.

The Francois K connection is also key. Moeller does A&R for Mr. Kervorkian’s labels as well as DJs regularly at his Monday night Deep Space parties in New York. As a DJ, Moeller’s eclectic take on dance music shines through – he’s just as like to mix together reggae, dub techno or even comedy records as up to the minute house and techno. For his RA podcast, Moeller leans heavily towards the latter, offering up a mix that travels from dub to rave with its feet on the floor. A proper Monday night in."
