Renovating The Store

The Why?

Last week, we quietly unveiled some fundamental changes to the ResonantVibes.com store. This unveiling was the culmination of reams of user feedback, days of internal discussion and weeks of development. While we have yet to shout it from the mountaintops, we are confident that this overhaul will change the way you shop for music on RV.

One of the most frequent bits of advice we’ve received from users pertains to the browsing functionality of the site. Many users have suggested that we streamline the process and provide a way to quickly navigate our catalog while providing the flexibility to sort the collection. Some have mentioned that our product listings were too big and cumbersome, so we’ve slimmed them down. Significantly.

Furthermore, we wanted to provide users with more views into our catalog, so we added the ability to view by releases, tracks or samples. This is change that you can believe in (if the President of The United States of America can end a sentence with a preposition, so can we). (more…)

Site Updates for Week 38

We’ve applied a dollop of change to the RV web site this week. We’ll start by detailing the most obvious changes, but before we do that, we’ll have to ask some of you to put on your imagination caps while we engage in a little role playing:

Forgotten Password Screen
So, you’re a returning customer to Resonant Vibes, your favorite electronic music download store. It’s been awhile (hours, maybe even days) since you placed your last massive order of the most sensibly priced tracks in the land. However, with  your mind so thoroughly blown by your shopping experience combined with Swayze’s passing, you’ve forgotten your password to login to RV. Before this week, you would have had to email us to reset your password. Clearly, this was less than ideal. Thus, we arrive at our most significant feature for this week: Password Reset:

It’s simple. When you find yourself scratching your head at the login screen, click the Forgotten Password? link beneath the login form. This will take you to a page where you can input your email address. We’ll then send a link to your email address that will allow you to change your password. Keep in mind that the link in the reset email is only good for 24 hours, so make sure that you’ve let your SPAM filter know that we’ll be coming.

That’s not all, folks. We’ve also added some other features for which you’ve been clamoring:

Cue Screen
Cue your music: As you may remember, before we vastly improved our media player, we included the ability to cue tracks and mixes for the media player. However, once we released the latest round of media player updates, we dropped this feature. For the time being, everything you added to the media player was cued to play immediately. Now, a click on the Cue link will simply add the item to the end of your media player playlist, where it will wait its turn. Almost as if you had queued it!

Search Results ScreenBlog search results: A close friend of RV pointed out that, while our search results are great for finding music in our store and network, they don’t really help much with finding matching results in our blog. While we have not yet integrated blog content into our search engine, we’ve included a convenient link at the top of the search results page that will take you to a blog search results page. It’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction and will allow make searching the entire RV universe a bit easier.

That’s about it for this week. We’ve made some other slight updates and fixed some bugs, but have been busy working on the overhaul of the RV network. It’ll be worth it. It will change your life.

Site Updates Update (Updated)

dl_center

It’s that time again when we talk about improvements made to the RV web site. Since the last update, quite a few changes have been implemented. While many of these are subtle and lean towards the ‘make our job as developers easier’ end of the spectrum, there have also been several major changes that, we hope, will greatly improve your shopping experience at RV.

We’ve reworked the Download Center (pictured above), the first page you see after you’ve placed an order. If you’re unfamiliar with this page, I highly encourage you to check it out ;) We went back to the drawing board on this one and arrived at a solution that presents your order for download cleanly and simply. Furthermore, Sam designed some nice, new download buttons to avoid confusion about how to download (more…)
