This will be my last top 10 of 2009. There are some great tracks coming out to wrap up 2009, and I’m already seeing some things that I’m certain will make the cut in ’10. Have a wonderful new year!

1. Druckpegel (Original Mix) – Mikdat vs. Afrilounge – Kassette. Druckpegel just works for me. Straight ahead and plays well with others.

2. Perfect Fever (Original Mix) – Jota Wagner – Beat Code. Perfect Fever is a fun one. I enjoy the contrast between the whimsical feel of the lead synth line and its somewhat gritty tonality.

3. The Right Time (Original Mix) – Mark Henning – Hypercolour. Hands down my favorite of the week. Rick James’ crazy ass talking about, believe it or not, kinky women combined with great production by Mark Henning. I wouldn’t change a thing about this track.

4. Murex (Phonogenic Remix) – Erich Bogatzky – Dieb Audio. It’s those synths I’m always on about… again. I can’t help it.

5. Out Run (Original Mix) – Lucio Aquilina – Hideout. Talk about smooth…

6. Beauty On Water (Original Mix) – Gaspard De La Vega & Jenius – Perplex. It’s the synths again, though this time around they’re a bit more in your face.

7. Nuit Blanche (Original Mix) – Jay Sustain – BWG Records. Just this man’s opinion, but Nuit Blanche is the best track from BWG I’ve heard in a long time. Definitely give it a listen.

8. Cochlea (From Karaoke To Stardom Remix) – Kleinschmager Audio – Dekadent Schallplatten. Dekadent is a new label to RV and a welcomed addition. What a great release.

9. Wallpaper (Original Mix) – SQL – Microtonal Records. SQL has been seeing a good deal of action on the blog and in the shop. Not at all surprising…

10. Rat (Original Mix) – Michele Faneschi – Travel Records. I wasn’t familiar with Travel Records until I heard Rat. They’re on the Radar.

We’ve had our hands more than full at RV over the past weeks, and these posts have been somewhat skimpy as a result. This week, I carved out the time to put the mix together. I think it’s nice to be able to listen to the music as the post is being read. Granted, it probably shouldn’t take 30 minutes to read it, but that’s what tabs are for. And speaking of the mix, I could have carved out a little more time to do it, so you’ll have to forgive a few less than smooth transitions.

1. Promised Land (NTFO Remix) – Moonbeam – Beef Records. What a stellar release. The remixes are all unique and range from around 122 to 130 BPM. Each of these would fit into so many sets…

2. Hafenstrasse (Original Mix) – Gorge & Nick Curly – Systematic. This baby is funky.

3. This Feeling (Steve Bug Remix) – Ribn – Mild Pitch. It’s probably no surprise that Steve Bug is cranking out some quality music.

4. Human League (Original Mix) – Sendos Fuera – Tokyo Red Recordings. I’m clearly hooked on this label. I haven’t gone back to count how many of their tracks have been featured in these posts, but looking at all the releases from Tokyo Red, I saw lots of familiar covers. Great track!

5. Quantum Physics (Original Mix) – Gavin Herlihy – Resopal Schallware. Ahh, Resopal Schallware. Just weird enough to walk the line between interesting and ridiculous.

6. Drama Society (Almodrama) – Drama Society, Vladislav Delay – Drama Society. This is the first release on Drama Society. Good start.

7. Deconstructed (Original Mix) – Alex & Filip – Mirabilis Records. Mirabilis is another label that continues to put out consistently good music. The latest from Alex & Filip is no exception. Deconstructed builds and builds and could destroy a dancefloor.

8. Get Up And Lie (Original Mix) – Brwn Shoes – My Little Dog. A track from My Little Dog almost made the list last week, but this week, Get Up and Lie was an easy choice.

9. Backroom (Original Mix) – Deepchild – Trapez. As if I needed another reason to love Trapez… Also, there’s a track on this release called Death Panel My Ass Ms Palin.

10. It is L8 (Original Mix) – LeRon & Yves Eaux – Little Mountain Recordings. Yep.

1. We met at the Party (Original Mix) – Ricardo Tobar – Traum Schallplatten. I’ve found that with electronic music, the titles of songs rarely reflect the mood of the song. Honestly, I think most of them are arbitrarily chosen. I’m always pleased to find one that fits (especially when it’s a good song).

2. Cake (Sheehan & Clausen Sweet Chocolate Remix) – Matthew Burton – Elite Records. The congas/bongos have something weird going on here, and I like it.

3. Connection (Kiki’s Vinyl Remix) – AGF / Delay – BPitch Control. Kiki. Come on. This guy can’t put a foot wrong.

4. Tabla Rehab (Original) – Spoonkat – Urbansound Records. Big bass, big beats, and some fun bullhorn gibberish.

5. First Journey (Original Mix) – Lain Christoph – Sintope Digital. First Journey eases back into the pocket and grooves.

6. 61 Paths to Find ur Lover (Original Mix) – Till Von Sein - Dirt Crew Recordings. Despite the bastardization of the English language, I can’t help but like this song. I hope that when you find “ur” lover, he or she smacks you, you start typing “your” in emails and text messages, and you live happily ever after.

7. Cuidado Con El Perro (Original Mix) – Honeyeaters – Alma Soul Music. Ohh the bass. The way it rolls – it makes me think of Dragnet on acid.

8. Sabbat (Original Mix) – Flow – Beat Code. Wild indeed….

9. Russian Fisherman (Citzen Kain & Phuture Traxx Remix) – Irregular Synth & Drifting Beat – Panormus Music. Straight up sweet sweet techno.

10. Big City Abyss (Original Mix) – Thor De Force – Nublu Records. This is big brassy track but the melody isn’t lost.

If you happen to follow some of the label links below, you’ll find that many of them only have a handful of releases. This could be attributed to a release from a new label, but more than likely, is because it is some of the first content to arrive from one of the many new labels we’ve added to the shop. If that’s the case, keep an eye out. We’ll have a steady stream of back catalog coming so you can dig back for the goodies the label has already released, and grab the new stuff as soon as it comes out.

1. Cepheid (Chloe Harris Remix) – Liz Cirelli – Mirabilis Records. This is a no brainer for me. I always seem to go for Mirabilis, and I’ve been known to enjoy some Chloe Harris as well.

2. One Mode (Original Mix) – Midave – Tokyo Red Recordings. Tokyo Red has been getting me lately. I enjoy a label that has an identity, but their releases don’t seem to be dictated by some sort of label mantra. Their artists seem to have some room to breathe and are well chosen, which can only help make the music better.

3. Flush (Original Mix) – Sonodab – Galaktika Records. Do yourself a favor and listen to the whole release.

4. Shponggg (Original Mix) – Latscho Palme – Plattenbau Music. Shpongg must mean rolling waves in a language with which I am unfamiliar.

5. A Summer Melody (Remute Remix) – Paul Schal – Remuted. Remute has issued only two releases, but I like them both and look forward to number three.

6. Abstract Looper (Original Mix) – Matthias Springer – Punkt vor Strich Recordings. Abstract Looper is the perfect example of the type of song I like to hear when I’m in a laid-back mood, or towards the end of the night. It definitely grooves, but it doesn’t club you over the head.

7. Escape (Robin Hirte Summer Mix) – Robbie Rivera – Parquet Recordings. This remix of the Robbie Rivera track is excellent. Drop this one and it’s on. 128 BPM of body moving techno.

8. Plankton (Matan Caspi and Eddy Good Remix) – Muzikjunki & Marco Den Held – Wazzup? Records. This particular remix of Plankton has good energy and melody without being over the top.

9. Never Forever (Marko Zavala Remix) – Sharkatronic – Animal Play Minimal. This one gets a bit nasty…

10. Goldbrokat (Donato Dozzy Techno Remix) – Cio D’or – Prologue. One of my favorite releases of the week.

If you’ve been following the blog, you know that it’s been an unfathomably strange few weeks. As such, there was no top ten post last week. I have selected tracks from this week and last. After all, it wouldn’t be fair to neglect those great cuts from last week. This is somewhat of a laid back collection of songs, but there’s still some room to groove.

1. Mom (Original Mix) – Otzim Lee – Pong Musiq. Mom’s are always showing up. On tattoos, greeting cards, and apparently very good electronic music. I think the music is certainly fitting. Cheers to moms everywhere.

2. Suerte (Alexander Maier’s Lucky Cat Remix) – Florian Kruse & Nils Nürnberg – Dieb Audio. Suerte sets a bit of a somber mood. It has a great piano part, which doesn’t necessarily lighten the mood, but it does add to the groove. This is for serious dancing.

3. Chute (Ed Davenport Rmx) – Echonomist – Time has changed. Ahh, the bass.

4. Dischordance (Original Mix) – Max Cooper – Traum Schallplatten. I like Traum a little more with each release. This track is worthy of a spot in the top ten, if for no other reason, because it works ahead of the next song…

5. The White Flash (feat. Thom Yorke) – MODESELEKTOR FEAT. THOM YORKE – BPitch Control. It may seem insignificant, but being able to include this song in my top ten is one of the highlights of my professional endeavors. Radiohead has been one of my favorite bands for a long time. I could go on about Thom York (and company) for days. As I’m typing this, I’m being paid to write about and share music from a man I respect on a label that puts out great music. It’s nice when working at 11:30 on a Saturday night doesn’t feel like work.

6. colorado avenue (Original Mix) – landschall – Broque. Again, credit to a song that can follow one about which I clearly feel strongly. colorado ave. has just the right kind of synths happening to merge with something in Radiohead/BPitch territory.

7. Hey Carbon! (Original Mix) – Lanauze – Snubb. Groovy…

8. Party Guilt (Original) – The Royal We – Crosstown Rebels. Dude: “We dropped off the damn money”. The Big Lebowski: “We?” Dude: “The royal we. You know, the editorial…” One of my favorite bands and my favorite movie all in one post. This is a fun one. The conversations that transpire over the course of the tracks on Party Guilt are pretty out there. Fatuous.

9. Greek (Original Mix) – Luca Marano – OFF. Again, the bass. The UFO noises are fun too. And the guitar…

10. FCK (Original Mix) – Damian Uzabiaga – Raccoon Records.The phrasing of the keys in FCK is unconventional, which could throw a lesser song off the rails, but this one is better for it. The steady bass and kick provide a good balance.

I hope all who were out enjoying All Hallows’ Eve last night had a good time. As I was out taking in a local shindig with great tunes from our own Mr. Gracie and Stewart Walker, this week’s top ten had to spend some time on the back burner. 1. The Beginning (Original Mix) – Marcelo Nassi – Tokyo Red Recordings. The Beginning is somewhat of a creeper. It starts off slow, but some nice bass comes in midway through and takes it up a notch. Good one.

2. Robin Hood (Original Mix) - People Get Real – Magicbag Music. A release with Jamie Jones on it is usually going to get a look from me. His track is great, but the Original Mix just does it for me.

3. Scarlett (Original Mix) – Robsounds – Manual Music. If you read my top 10 with any frequency this shouldn’t be a surprise.

4. Vision 2 Vision (Original Mix) – Audiomontage – Freerange. Pardon my French – this album kicks all kinds of ass.

5. Hiatus (Original Mix) – Frenchie – Antiqua Recordings. ANTQ001 is the first release from Antiqua (you’d never have guessed by the title) and they’re coming out swinging. Keep an eye on this label.

6. Something Sweet (Original Mix) – Loudeast – Fusion Recordings. I enjoy pretty much everything about Something Sweet. The steady bass plays nicely against all the other little parts as they come and go.

7. The Release (Original Mix) – Midi Drop Music – Acryl Music. I’m pretty sure I mentioned this last week or the week before, but I’m just a sucker for the tone of the synths in this song.

8. Ilomini (Original Mix) – Blake Lucid – Gut Feel Records. Ilomini starts dark, gives you a little break, and then shifts moods to a more upbeat feel.

9. In Particular (Original Mix) – Examine – Savoir Records. Note the use of handclaps.

10. Laying Low (Original Mix) – John Selway & Dave Turov – CSM. This is the second Selway and Turov release we’ve received, and the second to make the top ten. These gents have it together.

I’m happy to report that things are continuing to go well on the content front. Within the next few weeks, we’re going to have deals in place with a few new distributors. I won’t name names yet – counting chickens and what not – but I can say my job of picking the tracks for these posts is about to get much more difficult. I think I’ll make it though…

1. Landscapes (Tim Paris Remix) – Idioma – Marketing. This is one of the better releases to come out this week. The Shit Robot Remix is fantastic.

2. Riffpunk (Original Mix) – Bukaddor & Fishbeck – My Best Friend / MBF. It’s hard to go wrong with anything on MBF. Bonusmeilen is no exception.

3. Escape Run (Original Mix) – St. Plomb – Brut!. Another solid label, BRUT!, with another solid release. For a rather minimalistic track, it has a lot going on. Parts of Escape reminds me of robots under water. That can’t be a bad thing, right? Well, it could be for the robots I suppose.

4. Can’t get No Sleep (Roland Appel Remix) – Subfossil – Best Works Records. I’ve listened to all the tracks on this album several times. As your attorney, I advise you to check it out.

5. OTD (Original Mix) – Toro 2.0 – Malatoid Records. Malatiod – these guys are really good at putting out things I like to hear, and OTD is one of my favorites. The way the bass plays off of the primary melody is great.

6. Intangable (Original Mix) – XU – Mojodojo Media. As I was listening to this (and having just watched an interview with Richie Hawtin in which he discussed having 4 tables going at once and doing all kinds of crazy layering and looping), it struck me that this track could be great layered under something else. Not that it isn’t good enough by itself – I just think it could work quite well.

7. Mamastroficos No Time (Jason Statham Remix) – Luis Trasto – Fairlads Digital Records. Listen to this one and you will hear disco sneaking its way in. It’s quite possible I’m alone in thinking this, or just wrong, but since disco has been making it’s charge, it seems like the tracks I’m hearing are getting more musical regardless of genre. Is nice. I like.

8. Fuschia (Original Mix) – Royce Haven – Sweet Cherry Music. Good groover with just a little bit of grit on the bass – definitely a song to get the people moving.

9. Roller Coaster (Original Mix) – Chriss Ronson – Ambiosphere. Roller Coaster is nice, deep and smooth.

10. The Persian Eye (Pajic Re-work) – Tim Xavier & Miro Pajic – LTD400. I’m a fan of pretty much anything Tim Xavier does. This collaboration with Miro Pajic is no exception. Quality.
