This Is Evolve (Miami Pool Party) – Photo Gallery

I’ve already written a post describing my positive experience at “This Is Evolve” – the Miami WMC pool party featuring Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg. The event was so good that I wanted to follow up by publishing a photo gallery…to give you an even better sense of what went down. Enjoy!

Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg in Miami

Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg

Last Thursday, Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg headlined a monumental pool party at the Surfcomber Hotel in Miami. No disrespect to the many other great events I attended at this year’s WMC, but this party was simply the best.

Before entering party, I got a backside view of it from the beach. As I walked along the shoreline, I could see all of the parties happening at the Ocean Drive hotels…one party after the next, with house music pumping at every turn – a truly beautiful thing. When I came to the backside view of the Surcomber, however, the scene was different. For starters, there was a large stage for the DJs. Everything about this party seemed bigger – the lights, the crowd, the speakers – you just knew this was a legit event!

After scoping out the scene, I made my way into the party and was immediately further impressed. Sander Kleinenberg was on the decks, playing a phenomenal daytime set. The sound system was perfectly arranged; no matter where you stood, the tunes were crisp and clear.

The crowd was just what you would expect; shirtless guys and hot girls in bikinis. The party environment was brilliantly designed. By day, you had the feeling that you were partying on the beach. One area of the party actually had sand and palm trees, while the pool was at the center of the other area. As day turned to night, you realized the true genius of the setup; the whole space turned into a club. There were lights, and you had the sense that you were getting down at a premier big-city venue, except that you were outside in perfect Miami nighttime weather!

As the evening progressed, Victor Calderone took us to the dark side. The crowd was ready for it, and he delivered – showing everybody the twisted, head-rearranging sort of tunes he’s accustomed to providing for the NYC underground.

This event will be long remembered by all who witnessed it.

Headed Down for Miami WMC 2010!

Miami WMC

Well, we’ve gotten to that special time of the year again, the time when the weather starts warming up and the dance music industry starts preparing for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC). No matter how many other events I attend, WMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Warm weather, palm trees, the beach, and incredible music always make for a memorable combination!

As usual, RV will have a presence at WMC this year. Our aim is to bring you coverage of some of the best events. In this post, I want to highlight a few of the parties we’ll be covering…

For starters, we’ll be covering the Victor Calderone and Sander Kleinenberg pool party, at the Surcomber Hotel, on Thursday, March 25th. This should be epic! The party will be going from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Let’s picture it…sitting poolside, sipping a mojito, everybody’s grooving to the pounding beats of these two reputed DJs. Nice!

On Thursday night, our focus will shift to Shine at the Shelbourne Hotel, where Hernan Cattaneo and Darren Emerson will be holding it down. I’ve seen both of these guys live, and the music was fantastic. They’ve both been getting the job done for years now, and I have no reason to think they’ll break the tradition this year.

On Friday night, another exciting party is going down at Shine. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, D. Ramirez, and Hybrid are going to be providing a musical odyssey for all comers. We’ll bring you a recap of this promising event.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll also be bringing you coverage of the 2010 Ultra Music Festival! This massive event represents the climax of the whole WMC week. As always, Ultra will showcase the talents of the world’s biggest DJs – Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Erick Morillo, and the list goes on and on!

As you can tell, it’ll be a busy few days down in Miami! Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on these events and some other amazing parties!

What’s Your Favorite Mix in the RV Network?

RV_Network_Favorites
The RV Network has been live now for over 8 months, and I think it’s slowly but surely turning into wonderful resource for the dance music community. As a true lover of dance music, I can say I’ve gotten countless hours of enjoyment from the music in our Network, particularly the mixes. At this point, we’ve accumulated some phenomenal sets – across all of the sub-genres of electronic music.
.
As I sit here enjoying our Network mixes (hour after hour), I sometimes find myself wondering what mixes you’re enjoying the most. Of course, I can look at the download stats to see what’s popular, but that doesn’t really tell the whole story. So, I figured I’d write this post to ask you outright…
.
In your opinion, what is the best mix in the RV Network?
.
I’d like to hear back from you on this one. If you take a few minutes to share your favorites as a comment to this blog post, I’ll give you a free track ;)
.
To get the conversation started, I will actually share my ten favorite mixes from the Network. Some of my picks are old (mixes that bonded with over the years); others are more recent.
.
1. Adam Beyer’s Essential Mix – If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you’ve probably heard me rave about this mix. This is one of Eddie B’s all-time favorites! You can read my detailed thoughts about it here.
.
2. John Digweed Live at Homelands – Another incredible mix! Words can’t do justice to the tightness. I’ve written about this mix before in a separate blog post.
.
3. Jon Gaiser at 10 Days Off – Jon Gaiser is a seriously underrated DJ in my opinion, and this is a perfectly done mix. Some of the other M_Nus crew members, like Magda or Troy Pierce, seem to be much more visible, but Gaiser gets it done.

Electric Zoo Festival – Day 2 Recap

Steve Bug at Electric Zoo on Sunday
Day 2 at The Electric Zoo Festival was another incredible experience. When Sam and I showed up, Adam Beyer was just getting on the decks in the Sunday School Hilltop tent. As always, Adam played a mind-blowing set, and I headed right for the backstage area to get some good video for you ;)
.
At some point while I was listening to Adam’s set, I realized that I needed to get coverage of some of the other DJs, so I made my way over to catch Desyn Masiello! I hadn’t ever seen Desyn play, but I’ve been enjoying his mixes for years…so this was a treat. At a certain point in his set, Desyn really took the crowd off guard and kicked the energy up by going into a string of pounding breaks tracks. Nobody saw that coming…
.
After leaving Desyn’s set, I went over to the Main Stage to check out Markus Schulz. As I was listening to Markus’ set, I found myself thinking that trance fans get picked on a lot, but, in my opinion, there is definitely still such a thing as great trance music! Hearing those huge, epic melodies on a ginormous, high-quality system, with the lights and stage effects, in an open outdoor area, really makes you understand and appreciate how amazing the dance music is.
.
After leaving the Main Stage area, I went back to the Sunday School Hilltop to get some video of Steve Bug. I’ve heard Steve on a few occasions, but this was hands down my favorite performance by him. He was absolutely into his music, and the tracks were unbelievable!
.
After leaving Steve’s set, I went to catch Nathan Fake. Of all the DJs I saw, Nathan was playing the hardest. Seriously, this guy gives everything he’s got when he’s playing. You’ll have to watch the video to see what I mean ;)
.
The next DJ I caught was Victor Calderone. This set was a monster…Victor Calderone playing in his hometown at the first NYC festival on this scale…obviously, he was killing it!
.
The last performance I caught may have been the best one. It was given by none other than Richie Hawtin, who played incredibly well. He closed the night at the Sunday School Hilltop, and everybody was getting all the way down!
.
The bottom line is simply that The Electric Zoo festival was off the hook! I have great expectations for the evolution of this event in the years to come, and I have no doubt that RV will be attending next year!
